Bellevue rallies past St. Paul

May 5—BELLEVUE — The Bellevue baseball team rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win Friday's non-league game against visiting St. Paul at Robert Peters Park.

Bellevue (9-7) trailed 5-0 after three innings, but tied it by the end of the fifth, only to see the Flyers (10-10) go back ahead with three runs in the top of the sixth.

The Redmen had three hits and were walked three times and hit by a pitch during their seventh-inning comeback, capped by a bases loaded walk.

"We played a good game, just could not close it out," St. Paul head coach Aaron Fries said. "Too many free passes in the later innings really cost us. We are doing a lot of things right, we just need to play with a little more self belief in crunch time.

Kole Maxwell finished 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI for the Flyers. Landon Fries singled with two RBI, while Thomas Zuccaro, Ben Burger and Gavin Thurston each singled and scored twice.

St. Paul entertains Plymouth on Saturday in a rescheduled Firelands Conference game.

"We will build off the positives and hopefully have a strong showing on Saturday," Fries said.
