Bellingham Beer Week, pizza shop opening, new wax salon, youth camp celebrates 100 years

Here’s a roundup of the latest retail and restaurant activity around Whatcom County:

European Wax Center opens

European Wax Center, a nationwide wax salon chain, opened a Bellingham location on Monday, April 17. The wax salon offers full-body waxing services as well as brow tinting. Appointments can be made online or by calling 360-483-0607. The salon is open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and is at 1225 E. Sunset Dr., Suite 125, in Bellingham.

New Pizza shop opening

Pizza Twist, a national Indian-style pizza company, is opening a Bellingham location. The storefront now has a sign above its front door and has been listed on the pizza company’s website as a “coming soon” location. The restaurant will be located at 103 E. Stuart Road in Bellingham.

Bellingham Beer Week

Bellingham Beer Week, a 10-day long celebration with various events put on by local breweries and restaurants, began on Friday, April 21, and runs through Sunday, April 30. The events include a block party, beer-themed trivia, new beer releases, brewery tours and a hangover brunch the last day of the event. Certain events require tickets to be purchased online.

All-day happy hour at Jalapeno’s

Jalapeno’s Family Mexican Restaurants recently announced on its Facebook page that it is extending happy hour discounts to now be available all day on certain days of the week. Happy hour drinks and food deals will now be available all day Sunday through Thursday and from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. to close on Fridays and Saturdays. Jalapeno’s has four locations in Whatcom County which will all offer these new happy hour hours.

The Barkley location is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and is at 2945 Newmarket Place.

The downtown location is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and is at 501 W. Holly St.

The Fairhaven location is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and is at 1007 Harris Ave.

The Meridian location is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and is at 4451 Meridian St.

Bellingham-owned camp celebrates 100 years

Camp Fire Samish, a Bellingham-founded youth camp organization, is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Camp Kirby in Bow. The camp strives “to create safe and inclusive environments that celebrate diversity and foster positive relationships,” by helping youth thrive, connect with nature, develop leadership skills, and make new friends, according to a news release from the organization. To celebrate, the camp is hosting events throughout the year such as an annual auction, work parties, an open house, community spaghetti feed and an Alumni Camp. Event information can be found online.

“We will be celebrating 100 years of positive impact. The community is invited to join us in experiencing the magic of Kirby, while viewing historical displays, participating in traditional camp activities, eating s’mores around the campfire, and sharing in our vision for the next 100 years,” Executive Director Erin Walker wrote in the news release.

Camp Fire Samish’s office is at 1321 King St. in Bellingham and Camp Kirby is at 4734 Samish Point Road in Bow, and currently has summer camp registrations open.

Master gardener plant sale

The Master Gardener Foundation of Whatcom County is hosting its plant sale both online and in person this spring season. The online plant sale will take place April 29 through May 2 and will include vegetables, tomatoes, herbs and day lilies. The in-person plant sale will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 13 in Ferndale and include “a wide variety of perennials, vegetables, native plants, tools, bonsai, and Mother’s Day gifts,” the website states. The plant sale is at Hovander Homestead Park Pavilion at 5299 Nielsen Ave.
