Editor's note: This is the sixth in a series on causes funded through the Julius Gius Bellringer Campaign, which is now underway. Each year readers of The Star donate funds to the campaign to help their neighbors benefit from The Salvation Army's programs.

Another year has passed us by. It’s been a year of great accomplishments, goals met, partnerships built and friendships formed.

At this time, we would like to focus on the good things and the lessons learned. Through the challenges and obstacles, the community of Ventura County has rallied around its own.

The Salvation Army has been able to count on many volunteers to help pick up food for food pantry distribution, help clients at the Central Coast Free Vision Clinic and help open two new pop-up food pantries in Fillmore and Piru.

Without our volunteers and amazing staff, the work of the Salvation Army in Ventura County could not be possible. We thank them for their dedication and tireless work.

During the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, the Salvation Army was able to provide meals to Ventura County tHousing Authority’s annual Thanksgiving lunch for its residents, seniors in Oxnard and at he Salvation Army’s Silvercrest Senior Residence in Ventura.

For families in Ventura County going through a difficult time, the Salvation Army distributes food, clothing, and toys so parents can give their children a joyous holiday. Because every child deserves a toy for Christmas.

The Salvation Army also provided meals and clothing to those residents displaced during the recent storm.

Of course, none of this work could be done without the generosity of all our donors. It’s because of them the work of The Salvation Army in Ventura County can continue providing basic necessities to families in need.

On behalf of Captains Juan and Patricia Torres, corps officers of The Salvation Army, Ventura County coordinators, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers, staff and donors for your time and treasures.

But the work of The Salvation Army does not end on Dec. 31. There are more people to reach, more food to distribute, more hope to give. May we continue the partnerships in 2024 to spread the love. There is so much more to do.
