Belmont Star Market Employee Dies Of Coronavirus

BELMONT, MA — A Star Market employee in Belmont died of complications related to the new coronavirus. The company confirmed the death on Tuesday night but did not identify the employee but offered condolences to the family.

"Our hearts are heavy, and our thoughts are with that associate's family," reads a statement from Star Market. "This is a difficult day for the entire Star Market team."

The company said the employee had not been in the store since April 4. The company added that since then, the Belmont store has gone through several cycles of "enhanced cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting process."

Employees at Star Market are now required to practice social distancing and wash their hands and disinfect checkout stands every hour. Front-line workers in Star Market are given masks as well, according to the company.

"The health and safety of everyone who walks through our doors is a top priority," a spokesperson said.
