Beloved bar owner drowns in Idaho lake, friends say. ‘Kind man with a great smile’

A beloved bar owner who had a “warm heart” drowned in an Idaho lake, multiple news outlets and community members reported.

Authorities responded to a drowning at about 4 p.m. Sept. 16 at Coeur d’Alene Lake in Rockford Bay, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

When they got to the lake, bystanders had pulled Aaron Robb from the water, deputies said. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Now family and community members are grieving his death.

Robb was a longtime bar owner of the Iron Horse in Coeur d’Alene, which has been in his family since his father opened it 50 years ago, the Coeur d’Alene Press reported.

He was also a star football player during his high school years at Gonzaga Preparatory School in Spokane, Washington, The Spokesman-Review reported.

After high school, Robb was part of the team that won a national championship for Notre Dame in 1988, the news outlet reported.

“He was a great player for Gonzaga and Notre Dame roommates with arguably the greatest Raider of my generation Tim Brown. God Bless you will be missed,” Robert J Knapp wrote on Facebook.

“A champion on the field with Notre Dame, and off the field with life. A person, like his father, that lived by a code of honesty, integrity, and honor,” Joshua Gore wrote.

“Aaron Robb was loved and admired by all of our Coeur d’Alene family. Those of us that grew up with him knew how much he dedicated his life to sports. He was a kind man with a great smile and warm heart,” Jennifer Jaeger said on Facebook.
