Aerosmith frontman and part-time Marshfield resident Steven Tyler has “voluntarily” checked into a drug rehabilitation facility after a relapse following foot surgery.

“As many of you know, our beloved brother Steven has worked on his sobriety for many years,” the band said in a statement posted Tuesday to its social media accounts.

“After foot surgery to prepare for the stage and the necessity of pain management during the process, he has recently relapsed and voluntarily entered a treatment program to concentrate on his health and recovery,” the band said.

The 74-year-old rocker returned to the South Shore last month to visit his son and was seen dining at Alba on 53 in Hanover.  In the past, Tyler donated a truckload of toys to Marshfield Community Christmas. He also gave groceries and supplies to the town's food pantry. In 2012 he made a surprise appearance onstage during Scituate's Heritage Days.

Aerosmith, the high-flying rock band with a South Shore base, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020. Besides Tyler, Aerosmith consists of guitarist Joe Perry, drummer Joey Kramer, bassist Tom Hamilton and guitarist Brad Whitford. They have won four Grammys and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

While Tyler "focuses on his well-being," Aerosmith has canceled its June and July “Deuces Are Wild” residency dates at Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas. In its statement, the band said live shows will resume in September.

Aerosmith is slated to be back in Boston this fall to play a 50th-anniversary concert Sept. 8 at Fenway Park.

Tyler and his bandmates have all called the South Shore home. At one point, Tyler, Kramer and Whitford all lived in Marshfield. Perry sold his Duxbury compound for $4.1 million this spring. Hamilton was the outlier, living in Boston and Cape Cod. Tyler and Perry even owned a music club, Mount Blue, in Norwell in 1997.
