Beloved children’s author Eric Carle, writer of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar,’ dead at 91

Eric Carle, the author of famous children’s literature such as “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” died on Wednesday at 91.

“It is with very heavy hearts that we share that Eric Carle, author and illustrator of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar and many other beloved classics, passed away on 23rd at the age of 91,” read a statement from the author’s official Twitter account. “Thank you for sharing your talent with generations of young readers.”

In his lengthy career starting when he was 40 years old, Carle penned and illustrated more than 70 children’s books.

In a tribute page on Carle’s website, a short message reads, “In the light of the moon, holding on to a good star, a painter of rainbows is now traveling across the night sky.”
