Beloved community member Rick Scofield dies, services scheduled

HOWELL — Funeral details have been announced for a beloved community leader who died this month.

William “Rick” Scofield, 71, died Tuesday, May 16, at the Karmanos Institute from complications after a long battle with multiple myloma, a type of cancer.

The lifelong Howell resident and businessman was known as a dedicated community volunteer who served on the boards of the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce, the Livingston Economic Development Council, First National Bank, the Howell Education Foundation, the Howell Opera House, the Howell Planning Commission, Livingston County United Way, the Howell Carnegie District Library, LACASA and the Community Foundation of Southeastern Michigan.

He was also the chairman of the Community Foundation of Livingston County.

Named Howell Citizen of the Year in 1986, Scofield had a city park named in his honor.

Scofield ran the family business, which began over 70 years ago and became May and Scofield Electronics, a supplier to the automotive industry.

Scofield is survived by his wife Mary (Schaefer) Scofield, children Ryan (Brenda) Scofield and Marta-Kate (Matthew) Jackson, and granddaughter Lillian Joy Jackson. He is also survived by his sisters Rory Scofield and Susan (Dan) Kaba and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. at the Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, MacDonald’s Chapel of Howell. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 24, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with visitation from 1 p.m. until the start of services.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Community Foundation of Livingston County.
