Beloved DC Anchor Jeannette Reyes Announces She’s Leaving Fox 5 News: ‘It Has Been An Extraordinary Privilege’
Jeannette Reyes, the Washington, D.C. anchor who has been delighting people on the internet by sharing her heartwarming family moments, is now stepping away from her job. Reyes announced her decision in an emotional message she delivered before her colleagues.
“This marks my final broadcast here at Fox 5,” Reyes said. “After much thought and consideration and prayer, I’ve decided to step away from the anchor desk. It has been an extraordinary privilege to bring you the news over the past three years.”
The D.C.-based journalist thanked the audience for welcoming her into their homes daily and trusting her always to deliver accurate news.
“The trust you placed in us, in me, is a responsibility that I do not take lightly,” she said.
The Philadelphia native also thanked the viewers for embracing her “literally and figuratively” since she arrived at the studio four years ago.
Reyes and her husband, Robert Burton, also a news anchor, became an internet sensation as they shared some special life moments with the world. As Blavity reported, the couple had one of their heartwarming moments in 2022 when they announced that they were expecting their first child. A viral video showed the moment when Reyes delivered the surprising news to Burton. It was an emotional moment for the pair, who finally succeeded after they had problems conceiving.
Another viral video shows the two lovers having a hilarious interaction with Reyes’ mother. As Blavity reported, Reyes and Burton recorded a video for their fans about their daily routines when her mom called them out for exaggerating. As the couple told the viewers that they wake up early daily to exercise, cook fresh food and pray, Reyes’ mom was in the background saying, “I don’t think you do that.” The video sparked hilarious comments on social media, adding yet another unforgettable moment for the beloved news anchors.
In her farewell message, Reyes said she looks forward to spending more time with her daughter.
“Unwrap presents with her on Christmas morning, I’m really looking forward to that,” she said.
To her colleagues, Reyes said they are “the best in the business,” and she has been fortunate to work alongside them. The beloved journalist also told her fans, “This is not goodbye in the truest sense.”
“You’ll still find me on social media, maybe doing the anchor voice a couple times here and there,” she said. “And I look forward to connecting with you all there. So thank you for all of this.”
Before Reyes arrived at Fox 5, she worked for an ABC affiliate in Philadelphia, according to her Fox 5 bio. She also had another stop as a general assignment reporter at an ABC station in D.C. Her coverage of Pope Francis’ visit to D.C. is among her career highlights.
As the daughter of Dominican immigrants, the Rhode Island native speaks Spanish fluently. Reyes grew up watching the Spanish-language station Univision. The Kent State University grad earned her bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. Reyes is honored as a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the National Association of Black Journalists.
