Beloved Taunton holiday tradition back in full force

Good morning, readers! It's Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, the 80th anniversary of a day that will live in infamy. National Pearl Harbor Day of Remembrance marks the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Today we honor the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed during the surprise attack at observances across the country.

Local stories

Taunton reminded us why folks far and wide refer to it as "Christmas City," with the return of a beloved holiday tradition. Once again the Green was all aglow with an elaborate light display — and downtown was transformed into a winter wonderland of festivities — at Saturday's 108th Lights On event. The festival's otherwise triumphant return was briefly disrupted, however, by a stabbing incident on Broadway, not far from the Green, that sent two people to the hospital as the celebration was in full swing. Read more on this story here.

If you get your power from the Taunton Municipal Light Plant, you stand to benefit from a $1 million earmark Taunton Sen. Marc Pacheco tucked into the state's $4 billion plan to spend American Rescue Plan Act funding. The federal cash will fund a one-off energy efficiency program to help ratepayers insulate their homes and take other similar measures. Read more on this story here.

Locals might know the East Bridgewater antique shop Mrs. Swift's and Moore's as a local haunt ... literally. But soon, the nation will know about its fun-loving spirits.
