A year ago, the owners of Elizabeth’s Pizza announced the popular restaurant would close. It was a necessary move because of storm damage and an ongoing insurance claim to get repairs made. Even then, owner Shameer Lookman said the closure would be temporary. He just didn't know if it would be months, or years, before the restaurant could reopen.

At the time, Elizabeth's had been working under a limited, take-out only operation since 2020 and had tried to make do with temporary repairs. But that was no longer possible, said attorney Michael Davenport, who represents Lookman and his business, which owns the shopping center at Market Street and Kerr Avenue,

Now, though, the insurance claim has been settled, Davenport said.

“Elizabeth’s and the shopping center will rise again,” he said. It's just a matter of completing the necessary repairs.

Elizabeth's Pizza opened in Wilmington in 1987 at 4304 ½ Market St. (There are also restaurants in Fayetteville, Greensboro and Eden, N.C., and in Collinsville, Virginia.) During that time, locals came to love the pizza, stromboli, and large Italian menu.
