Bemidji City Council to consider process for city manager review, hold closed session on potential litigation
Nov. 20—BEMIDJI — The
Bemidji City Council
will have a busy evening during its meeting on Monday, with an agenda that includes considering a process for city manager reviews and holding a closed session on potential litigation.
The first new business item on the agenda is to consider a process for the performance evaluation of the city manager, which is being discussed ahead of Richard Spiczka assuming the role in early December.
Spiczka is taking the position following the resignation of
former city manager Nate Mathews in April.
His resignation was preceded by an additional, non-annual performance review
held by the council in March.
The council will also hold a closed session to discuss threatened or pending litigation regarding PFAS contamination, with potential action to follow.
Bemidji's municipal water had been found to have PFAS contamination, stemming from a 3M product used in local firefighter training that had seeped into the water supply.
A
water treatment plant was completed in 2021
to remove PFAS from the water supply, with plans to expand in a second phase.
The council will also discuss plans for the Bemidji Regional Airport's Planning Zone 3, regarding an application for a BDPI grant.
Other business also includes considering quotes for an outside investigator to examine the city's 2022 redistricting process, a follow-up from the council's discussion
during its Nov. 6 meeting.
