Bemidji City Council to discuss airport development proposal
Jul. 25—BEMIDJI — The Bemidji City Council will hear a proposal to develop Area 3 of the Bemidji Regional Airport during its work session Monday, July 25, along with what responsibilities might fall on the city if the proposal is carried through.
Various plans to develop Area 3, which lies on the west side of the airport, have been proposed since 2015, but to date, no actions have been taken.
The current proposal involves the construction of a new hangar, and Bemidji Aviation has expressed interest in being the facility's first tenant.
The estimated cost for the development of the area would be between $2 and $3 million, which the airport would cover in part through state and federal grants.
The city of Bemidji's primary responsibility, if this proposal is approved, would be to sponsor any grant applications and approve a request to connect the new water and sewer infrastructure created by the project with existing lines.
At this point in the project, the Bemidji Regional Airport Authority is not requesting any financial assistance from the city.
