Bemidji City Council to hear result of Sanford Health Campus Traffic Impact Study

Jan. 22—BEMIDJI — The

Bemidji City Council

will hear the results of Sanford Health's Campus Traffic Impact Study during its meeting tonight, and will consider a memorandum of understanding with Sanford Health on a potential extension of 34th Street Northwest.

Sanford Health had previously met with the city council in March 2022

when it discussed its long-term plans for the Bemidji campus. As a part of this conversation, the city agreed to a 50/50 split on a traffic impact study of the area to assess its needs if development were to be pursued.

The study examined six scenarios with different development timelines and the possibility of extending 34th Street Northwest to intersect with Hannah Avenue Northwest.

The latter possibility will necessitate the city council to consider developing a memorandum of understanding with Sanford for this project, which would also involve looping a municipal water main along Hannah Avenue for a total estimated cost of $1,150,000.

The city council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. tonight, Jan. 22, at city hall.
