Bemidji City Council to hear update on Walkable Community Workshop
Aug. 15—BEMIDJI — During tonight's meeting, the
Bemidji City Council
will hear a report on the Virtual Walkable Community Workshop for South Bemidji, a collaboration between the Minnesota Department of Health, Headwaters Regional Development Commission and other community organizations that aims to improve pedestrian experiences in the Nymore area.
A virtual workshop was held in April by the group that gathered public feedback on walkability in South Bemidji, along with different proposals on what could be done to make the area more comfortable and safe for people walking and riding bicycles.
The group is now presenting its findings to the city council, which includes a demonstration project that would be constructed at the intersection of Gould Avenue Northeast and Southeast and First Street East and West near Lincoln Elementary.
The demonstration project would consist of temporary crosswalks to improve the visibility of pedestrians, particularly school children, and slow vehicle speeds on the roads. It would be installed by late August and removed in October before snow begins to accumulate.
