LILY RABE: Hi. I'm Lily Rabe.

BEN AFFLECK: And I'm Ben Affleck.

BOTH: And this is the WIRED Autocomplete Interview.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

BEN AFFLECK: Aflac Insurance-- this is my cross to bear.

LILY RABE: Here we go.

BEN AFFLECK: How is Ben Affleck? Do people Google that? Ben Affleck is fine. I think he's happy. He's doing the WIRED Autocomplete Interview. How do you expect him to be? How many Oscars Ben Affleck-- that's not. You don't-- this is-- modesty prohibits me-- two.

CREW: What are they for?

BEN AFFLECK: Best kiss in "Armageddon" and best on-screen car chase. "Argo" and "Good Will Hunting." How many languages does Ben Affleck--

LILY RABE: Oh.

BEN AFFLECK: --think he speaks.

LILY RABE: Sorry. It's the one job I had and I-- and now I've ripped off the S. But you can figure it out.

BEN AFFLECK: --languages does Ben Affleck peak? He peaks at very few. In fact, none are at their peak. But he peaks one and a half, 3/4. Depending on the day, I speak a little Spanish.

LILY RABE: What's the half-- oh, a little Spanish.

BEN AFFLECK: Yes. How did Ben Affleck wind up in this place in his life? How did Ben Affleck and Matt Damon meet? Ben Affleck and Matt Damon met at the park playing basketball. Ben Affleck was eight. Matt Damon was 10, which made him older. And he was at the time taller. I know that's hard to imagine, because he's so small.

But at the time-- and we met. And then we played little league together. And we lived two blocks apart. And we were friends. And then we went to school together. And there you go. There you have it.

LILY RABE: The rest is history.

BEN AFFLECK: What is Lily Rabe's problem? Instagram?

LILY RABE: Oh, gosh. Well, it's--

BEN AFFLECK: L Rabemama--

LILY RABE: It's just my name. It's just my name.

BEN AFFLECK: Lily Rabe.

LILY RABE: Yeah.

BEN AFFLECK: I just type that in. And I can follow you that easily.

LILY RABE: Yeah.

BEN AFFLECK: What is Lily Rabe? That-- I mean-- need I say more?

LILY RABE: Tell me.

BEN AFFLECK: What is Lily Rabe doing now?

LILY RABE: Oh, doing now-- like, what-- what's she up to.

BEN AFFLECK: I assume that's what it is.

LILY RABE: I'm doing this interview.

BEN AFFLECK: Jesus. What happened to Lily Rabe?

LILY RABE: Right. Oh, that's terrible. Well, now I feel horrible. I don't think that's what they meant.

BEN AFFLECK: No, I'm sure it's not. OK. What is Lily Rabe's favorite movie?

LILY RABE: Oh, gosh. "Good Will Hunting."

BEN AFFLECK: Oh, you're full of shit. You hate that movie. What was Lily Rabe in "Merchant?"

LILY RABE: Oh, in "Merchant." Oh, I like that they're just "Merchant." Casual--

BEN AFFLECK: You know what? When we're in the theater, it's like, it's Merch-- do I even need to say it? It's like, in Venice--

LILY RABE: Well, I was Porsha.

BEN AFFLECK: Of course.

LILY RABE: We started Shakespeare in the Park. And then we moved to--

BEN AFFLECK: Is Lily Rabe a revered actor in the theater? Yes. Look at that. Is she--

[INTERPOSING VOICES]

Yes.

LILY RABE: Does Ben Affleck live in Boston? I know the answer to this.

BEN AFFLECK: Not-- not at this time. No, I do not. My mother lives there. But some friends. But I live in Los Angeles, California.

LILY RABE: Does Ben Affleck own--

BEN AFFLECK: Aflac Insurance. This is my cross to bear. Imagine this.

LILY RABE: I really don't want to. It took me a second.

BEN AFFLECK: Insurance company-- imagine you have a very unusual kind of slightly unappealing sounding name. Now imagine that somehow there's a huge insurance company that also has that name. Now imagine that insurance company has a bottomless budget to buy television commercials.

And now imagine that their creative choice is to hire a duck to shriek your last name in as loud and obnoxious a way as humanly possible for the duration of a television commercial. And then imagine what it's like when you're on an airplane, and the hammered lady behind you recognizes you and thinks she's going to do her best Gilbert Gottfried for six hours on your way to New York. Thank you, Aflac. I don't own it. But I deserve it. I would like a discount.

LILY RABE: Does Ben Affleck know martial arts? Do you?

BEN AFFLECK: I mean, I don't know if you count-- I remember Matt Damon when he was, like, 11 told me he had a black belt in street fighting. But I took-- I did take a little Kung Fu as a youngster for a couple of years. And then--

LILY RABE: But the answer is no.

BEN AFFLECK: The answer is no. Yes. Of course the answer is no.

LILY RABE: Does Ben Affleck--

BEN AFFLECK: Play poker. Yes, Ben Affleck likes to play poker. I have some home games and some charity games. The Eastern Congo Initiative has a charity poker benefit once a year. Easterncongo.org can be found on the internet where you can participate in making the lives better for the people of Eastern Congo.

I don't think there's any reason why that extra money you have on you that you were going to, like, spend on Roblox or, you know, couldn't be used to help someone else who needs it. Easterncongo.org-- I'm glad we had this opportunity. Lily Rabe Amelia Earhart-- why? Lily Rabe Amelia Earhart? Why?

LILY RABE: Amelia Earhart. Well, I played Amelia Earhart on this season of American--

BEN AFFLECK: But why?

LILY RABE: I-- ask Ryan Murphy.

BEN AFFLECK: Because she's a genius, that's why. Why Lily Rabe Taylor Swift?

LILY RABE: Oh, gosh. I don't know. I've never played Taylor-- I love Taylor Swift. What is that? What is that?

BEN AFFLECK: It means, like-- it's just, like, when people think of, like, spectacular talented women who enchant the nation with their gifts, Lily Rabe, Taylor Swift.

LILY RABE: Great. Well, I'm thrilled.

BEN AFFLECK: Why Lily Rabe--

LILY RABE: I didn't warn us. Again, Ryan Murphy-- yeah, I did that on-- on "American Horror Story."

BEN AFFLECK: How were you? Was it good? Why Lily Rabe's height? What height?

LILY RABE: I know. Well, see, here's the thing. I'm 5' 8", maybe 5' 8.5". But it's great working with tall actors, because there aren't a lot of you.

BEN AFFLECK: I've got that going for me.

LILY RABE: And it's really why Ben Affleck.

BEN AFFLECK: I often get that from actors who are absolutely lovely normal stature who see me and go, thank god. I'm like, this is person must be a fan. Thank god you're this tall.

LILY RABE: Well, you read mine. Now I'm going to read yours on this one.

BEN AFFLECK: OK. Oh, that's right. I upstaged you.

LILY RABE: I preferred it. No, I like-- I like to--

BEN AFFLECK: You upstage me in the movies so much, that I owed you.

LILY RABE: Why is-- right-- the best Batman?

BEN AFFLECK: It's a mystery. Relative to George Clooney, I think it's self-evident. But I'm not willing to say more than that.

LILY RABE: Why did Ben Affleck not wear a Yankees hat? Like, at a Yankees game?

BEN AFFLECK: You know, this is a story that has been exaggerated over the years, in part because of David Fincher's penchant for telling lies in interviews. No. I was doing "Gone Girl." There was part of the story where I was supposed to be in disguise in LaGuardia Airport, I think it was.

And Dave was like, yeah, you know, you, like, buy a baseball hat at the thing. And the-- Yankees hat. I said, I can't. I'm not going to wear that. I'm not going to put that hat on my head, because, you know, I'll catch fire. And-- and he was like, no, are you serious?

I was like, no, I actually am serious. I actually do have some-- some principles. And we had a brief conversation about it, as you do with your director sometimes when two people have different creative choices. And we found a compromise. I wore a New York Mets hat, which I thought made the scene better. And I think David thinks so too.

LILY RABE: I felt that way.

BEN AFFLECK: But he later on said that I shut the movie down for four days, which we know isn't honest, David. We know we spent those four days shooting 1/8 of a page, 500 takes. OK.

LILY RABE: Why do I like Ben Affleck? Oh. For so many reasons, whoever is writing in that question.

BEN AFFLECK: You know, I like Ben Affleck. Because, you know, I'm stuck with him.

LILY RABE: I like Ben Affleck. I'm not stick with you.

BEN AFFLECK: Well, no. Right now, you are.

LILY RABE: I genuinely like you. Why isn't there more Ben Affleck?

BEN AFFLECK: In what sense?

LILY RABE: Where'd he go?

BEN AFFLECK: Exactly. Exactly. You see that? I don't know why. Because bad taste? Directors don't have vision? No. I-- I think there's plenty. What is Lily Rabe in?

LILY RABE: "The Tender Bar."

BEN AFFLECK: Rattle off that-- there you go. Nothing more needs to be said.

CREW: Do you know how many IMDb credits you have?

LILY RABE: I don't know.

BEN AFFLECK: I only know-- somebody told me in a recent interview. It just depressed me.

LILY RABE: Why?

BEN AFFLECK: Because it was a big number.

LILY RABE: But that's so wonderful.

BEN AFFLECK: And I thought, you can only do that by just being very old.

LILY RABE: That's just not true.

CREW: It says 42.

LILY RABE: 42? Oh, that's an important baseball number.

BEN AFFLECK: Jackie Robinson.

LILY RABE: Yeah.

BEN AFFLECK: What is Lily Rabe Zodiac sign?

LILY RABE: I'm a cancer with-- I know this whole thing-- Scorpio rising, Libra moon. Do you know all three of yours?

BEN AFFLECK: I know that I'm a Leo. I think there's a Scorpio moon in there. I don't know what it means. But I once read that, like, if you would read off to, like, any random group of people the traits of a Zodiac sign, that nine out of 12 people would raise their hand and be like, that's me. And that made me think, like, hmm. Are we really just divided by 12 personality types at random by the month we're born in? Maybe.

LILY RABE: Maybe.

BEN AFFLECK: What season is Lily Rabe in "AHS?"

LILY RABE: Oh, in "AHS?" I've done all of them except for one of them.

BEN AFFLECK: What Lily Rabe character are you?

LILY RABE: What Lily Rabe character are you?

BEN AFFLECK: I am actually the character you play in "The Tender Bar." I am that tirelessly dedicated parent, that beautiful martyr, self-sacrificing parent that's so full of love for their children that they inappropriately foist on them their own personal needs that they go to Yale and put a sort of unhealthy amount of pressure on them. Nobody's perfect.

LILY RABE: What is Ben Affleck's new movie?

BEN AFFLECK: "The Tender Bar," starring Lily Rabe.

LILY RABE: What is Ben Affleck's Dunkin' order? I know this. It's a tall-- it's a big-- it's a big iced one.

BEN AFFLECK: Yeah. That's right.

LILY RABE: And it's not--

BEN AFFLECK: Oh, because we were in Massachusetts and I was drinking Dunkin' Donuts every day. Yes, of course.

LILY RABE: How do I know that?

BEN AFFLECK: I know. I just feel like, why do people-- but, of course, because I drank it around you all the time. And it was obnoxious.

LILY RABE: Observant-- you know--

BEN AFFLECK: Yes, that was a bad question. It's obvious why. OK, thank you.

LILY RABE: What movies did Ben Affleck produce?

BEN AFFLECK: Several. [INAUDIBLE], "Argo--" and I produced some of the green light movies. And I produced-- you know, I mean, listen-- producing is one of those jobs that's, like, you know, sometimes people actually do zero. And sometimes people do a great job like Grant Heslov, "The Tender Bar." And George produced "Argo." So there you go. It's all full circle.

LILY RABE: What car does Ben Affleck--

BEN AFFLECK: Drive? If Ben Affleck's children are watching, Ben Affleck only drives a car with a very minuscule carbon footprint that is very safe, and is very responsible, and socially conscious.

LILY RABE: Which is-- what is that car?

[INTERPOSING VOICES]

I actually really do need-- oh, you don't--

BEN AFFLECK: I have-- I only drive those kind of cars.

LILY RABE: Got it.

BOTH: That's it. Thank you for searching. And thank you for watching.

LILY RABE: We did it.

BEN AFFLECK: Won't you be our neighbor?
