Ben and Jerry’s planning scoop shop in Clearwater Beach

A Ben and Jerry’s scoop shop could be opening in Clearwater Beach.

The Vermont ice cream company has filed plans with the city of Clearwater to build out a 2,560-square-foot store at 409 Mandalay Ave., a building that used to be a Subway. Permit applications were filed in mid-June and are currently under review, city spokesman Robert Napper said.

Ben and Jerry’s representatives did not respond to calls and emails for comment. But the company recently launched what appears to be an Instagram page for the Clearwater store, with a series of pinned stories with titles like “Catering and “We’re hiring.”

It would be the second new Tampa Bay Ben and Jerry’s store to be developed this year. In April, the company announced plans to open a shop in the Midtown Tampa development, its first Hillsborough or Pinellas location in about a decade.

For now, the nearest Ben and Jerry’s scoop shop is at St. Armands Circle in Sarasota.
