Jun. 10—NASHUA, N.. H. — Former Lyman Memorial standout Colton Bender hit a 3- run home run in the first inning, leading the Norwich Sea Unicorns to their third straight win with three hits, three runs and three RBI in an 8- 4 victory over the host Nashua Silver Knights on Wednesday night.
Bender, who led Norwich to a win the night before with seven home runs in a home run derby extra-inning win, set the tone for a 4- run first inning with his first homer of the season following a sacrifice fly by Kyan Lodice.
Matt Malcom, a standout at Eastern Connecticut State University this spring, also drove in three runs, including a bases- loaded walk in the third and a 2- run single in the seventh to give the Sea Unicorns a 4-run cushion.
Nashua had cut it to a 2- run game with a single run in both the fifth and sixth innings after ECSU's John Mesagno delivered a sacrifice fly for Norwich in the fifth.
Kaelen Culpepper had two hits and Bryan Loriga scored two runs.
Bryan Albee earned the win with five innings of relief, allowing one earned run and striking out five. Spencer Fox closed the game with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts.
The Sea Unicorns travel in- state to take on the New Britain Bees tonight at 6: 35 pm at New Britain Stadium.
