Bengals promote 2 OL to active roster ahead of Week 8 vs. Titans

The Cincinnati Bengals elevated two offensive linemen to the active roster ahead of Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

Cincinnati brought up guards Quinton Spain and Shaq Calhoun from the practice squad to the 53, the team announced.

The moves are a direct response to the rash of injuries suffered by the offensive line in front of Joe Burrow. On the final injury report, three starting offensive linemen have been tabbed as officially out for the game.

Of the elevations, Spain is the biggest name. After Buffalo cut him and the long onboarding process due to COVID-19 protocols, the team officially signed him Friday.

While Spain is a starter-caliber player, his presence on the active roster for Sunday is merely for emergency purposes, barring a stunner of a surprise. He’s had just one walkthrough with the team, so he probably isn’t a contender to actually serve as a starter until after the bye week.
