Bengals RB Mixon exits with ankle injury

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon injured his left ankle in Sunday's season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.

Reports following Cincinnati's 21-20 loss called it a sprain. "A little swelling, but early reports optimistic. He'll have some tests to be sure," NFL Network's Tom Pelissero tweeted.

Mixon came up limping after he was tackled by Seattle linebacker Bobby Wagner on a 1-yard run on the second play of the second half. He did not return.

Mixon, the AFC's leading rusher last season with 1,168 yards, finished with six carries for 10 yards and two catches for 7 yards.

Backup Giovani Bernard rushed seven times for 21 yards and caught two passes for 42 yards.
