Benintendi's stock goes up after trade to Yankees

Chris Crawford dives into the New York Yankees' recent acquisition of Andrew Benintendi and discusses what fantasy managers should expect from him moving forward for the rest of the 2022 season.

Video Transcript

- Andrew Benintendi traded royal blue for pinstripes last week as he was sent to the Yankees from Kansas City for three minor league pitchers. The former top prospect in baseball is enjoying one of his best professional seasons in 2022, and was hitting 320, 387, 398 over 93 games with the Royals before the move.

He hasn't gotten off to a rip roaring start since moving to the Bronx with just one hit in 17 plate appearances. But no one should panic over 4 games. He's earned the high batting mark before the deal according to the metrics. Benintendi is one of the hardest players to strikeout. He has an excellent eye at the plate. And he has a swing that is conducive to hitting for average as seen in an expected batting average that ranks in the 89th percentile.

There is some hope that he could hit for more power now that he's in New York. But he's well below average in barreling the baseball and hard hit percentage. So expecting a major homer run would be expecting too much. Benintendi is a flawed fantasy player, but the fact that he's going to the loaded Yankees lineup, means his stock goes up for the rest of the 2022 campaign.
