Bennington man involved in vehicle crash Monday

Jun. 29—HANCOCK — An 80-year-old man was taken to Monadnock Community Hospital Monday after his vehicle drifted off the road, but he came out of the crash unharmed, according to Hancock Police Chief Tom Horne.

The single-vehicle crash happened at about 1:46 p.m. Monday. Horne said Robert L. May, 80, of Bennington, was driving eastbound in a 2020 Toyota Tacoma on Bennington Road near Adams Lane when he drove off the road into a ditch.

"There's no real rhyme or reason as to why he drifted, as the roads were dry and it was partly cloudy," Horne said. "There was some damage to trees, and the vehicle was obviously substantially damaged."

Police aren't sure what speed May was driving at the time of the crash, but Horne said May was the only person involved in the crash.

Hancock police were dispatched at 1:50 p.m. after the Hancock Fire Department responded to the scene.

May was taken by ambulance to Monadnock Community Hospital as a precautionary measure, Horne said.
