Berea Home Village honors 2022 Volunteers of the Year

Dec. 13—Berea Home Village has announced Kelly Mehler and Peggy Patrick as the organization's 2022 Volunteers of the Year.

Each year, the Member and Volunteer Committee of the Berea Home Village (BHV) Board chooses two volunteers who have served the organization and community.

According to a release from the organization, Patrick is a longtime volunteer of Berea Home Village and served on the original steering committee and currently serves on the board of directors.

Patrick initiated the organization's first "Service of Remembrance," which has become a new BHV tradition.

The volunteer also serves on the Volunteer and Member Committee and provides "a chaplain's experience and insight into service improvement," a release noted.

"(Patrick) keeps busy transporting members, helps with new volunteer orientation, serves as primary volunteer for several members... and recruited other volunteers," a release said of the volunteer.

Patrick was also praised for her baking skills at member events and her enthusiasm, loyalty, steadfastness, and dependability.

"Peggy's faith runs deep. Practical and creative, she is a good sounding board for members and volunteers alike. She is very supportive without judgment," a release stated.

Mehler was praised for utilizing his crafting skills to help others.

"(He) approaches member home repair needs with the same skill and creativity with which he crafts fine furniture and his many handy man skills are constantly put to use to make members' homes safer," a release noted.

Mehler was described as a creative, kind, and generous, problem solver, who "goes beyond what is necessary to help members."

The volunteer even makes time every year to give a BHV member's antique grandfather clock a yearly clean and tune up.

Mehler's skills are an integral part of BHV's mission to help keep members in their own homes.

"Kelly can order and install an air conditioner in the summer and a heater in the winter for members needing safe and comfortable home environments, and then engineer storm window upgrades to keep that comfortable air in the homes," a release stated.
