Bergen County 2023 primary election results

The fact that Bergen County had only a handful of contested races in Tuesday's primary election may have contributed to the low voter turnout.

Only 3% of Bergen County's registered voters, or 20,000, cast ballots.

The outcomes included upsets among Democrats in Demarest and Englewood, as incumbents lost their seats, and in Franklin Lakes the council president was defeated.

Bergen County contested races

Demarest, Englewood and Tenafly had contested Democratic races, while Franklin Lakes, Upper Saddle River and Wallington had contested Republican races. Bergenfield originally had a contested Democratic primary, but a candidate dropped out after the unofficial list was released.
