Bergen, Passaic, Morris and Sussex 2022 elections: Everything you need to know

Election Day has come and gone, but votes are still being counted. On the ballot were myriad referendum questions, municipal and school board offices, as well as each of New Jersey's 12 district seats for the House of Representatives. Voters in some cases saw unfamiliar names on their ballots, due to redistricting which took place this year and relocated many towns to other districts.

What you missed overnight

Though nothing is finalized yet, New Jersey residents are waking up Wednesday with a pretty strong picture of who will represent them in Congress for the next two years, though the race between incumbent Democrat Tom Malinowski and Repbulican challenger Tom Kean, Jr. in NJ's 7th Congressional District was too close to call last night. NJ Congressional District 5: Josh Gottheimer v. Frank Pallotta

Incumbent Josh Gottheimer was elected to another term over challenger Frank Pallotta in NJ’s 5th District. Gottheimer is a Democrat and Pallotta is a Republican.

NJ Congressional District 7: Tom Malinowski v. Thomas Kean Jr.

The District 7 congressional race pits incumbent Tom Malinowski against Thomas Kean Jr. Malinowski is a Democrat, while Kean is a Republican. It’s one of the country's most closely watched races for the House of Representatives, with the pair squaring off for a second time in one of the most affluent and best educated districts in the country. NJ Congressional District 8: Rob Menendez Jr. v. Marcos Arroyo

Son of United States Sen. Bob Menendez, Robert Menendez Jr. has been declared the winner in a race against Marcos Arroyo in NJ’s 8th District after incumbent Albio Sires chose not to seek reelection. Menendez is a Democrat, while Arroyo is a Republican.

NJ Congressional District 9: Bill Pascrell v. Billy Prempeh

Incumbent Bill Pascrell has won reelection against challenger Billy Prempeh in the 9th District. Pascrell is a Democrat and Prempeh is a Republican.

NJ Congressional District 10: Donald Payne Jr. David Pinckney

Incumbent Donald Payne Jr. has defeated challenger David Pinckney in NJ’s 10th District 10. Payne is a Democrat and Pinckney is a Republican.

NJ Congressional District 11: Mikie Sherrill v. Paul DeGroot

Incumbent Mikie Sherrill has won reelection over challenger Paul DeGroot in NJ’s 11th District. Sherrill is a Democrat and DeGroot is a Republican.

How do I vote in New Jersey?

In New Jersey, the polls are open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Election Day. Voters can find their polling place and answers to other questions about voting at VOTE.NJ.GOV. NJ residents can also call 1-877-NJ-VOTER with questions.

If you requested a vote-by-mail ballot, it must be either postmarked by 8 p.m. on Election Day or delivered in person to your county's Board of Elections office by the time the polls close.
