Berkeley Coronavirus Updates: School Cases, Impact On Halloween

BERKELEY, NJ — Here are the latest updates on how the coronavirus has impacted Berkeley.

Cases

The Ocean County Health Department has reported 932 coronavirus cases and 104 deaths in Berkeley as of Friday afternoon. That's an increase of 66 cases and three additional deaths since Berkeley Patch's last update Sept. 22.

The OCHD reported 63 new cases in the county Thursday, bringing the area to 15,724 cases and 988 deaths. See more data here.

Recent Updates

  • Berkeley Township Elementary School closed for in-person learning Thursday and Friday after officials identified "additional" coronavirus cases associated with the school. MORE.

  • The Berkeley Township School District also confirmed an undisclosed amount of cases at the Bayville School. The Central Regional School District reported a case Oct. 6.

  • Halloween is on in Berkeley. The township set trick-or-treating hours for 12-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Township officials request that participants adhere to the New Jersey Department of Health's parameters. MORE.

Here's what else you should know:

  • Gov. Phil Murphy addressed the increase in indoor family gatherings amid cooler weather, deeming indoor events as potential "starting points for outbreaks." MORE.

  • Murphy announced Thursday that he will be signing an executive order extending the moratorium on utility shut offs through March 15, 2021. The moratorium will ensure that no household in the state will have its electricity, gas service, or water shut off for nonpayment. MORE.
