Berks Career and Technology Center wins award for safe driving PSA

Apr. 28—The Berks Career and Technology Center has won third place in the state in a contest promoting safe driving.

The "Just Drive" contest is a joint effort between NJM Insurance Group and Impact Teen Drivers. Schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey created 30-second public service announcements that were entered into the contest.

The entry "Game Begin" by BCTC students took home third place in Pennsylvania. The video highlighted important safety steps to take before driving, including adjusting car mirrors, fastening seat belts and storing cellphones.

The school was awarded $5,000 for its third-place finish.

The idea behind the contest is to get students thinking about safety, particularly when they're behind the wheel.

"Our partners at the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey and Impact Teen Drivers inspire students to promote a culture of safety within their schools," Erica Rosso, NJM consumer safety partnership

and program supervisor, said in a statement announcing the winners. "Year over year this contest amplifies the power of teen voices. Their collaborative work to raise awareness and end distracted driving gives us promise that safer roads are achievable."

A total of 92 schools in New Jersey and Pennsylvania took part in the contest.
