May 19—The following events are scheduled in observance of Memorial Day:

Wyomissing

—The Wyomissing Memorial Day parade begins May 27 at 9:45 a.m. from Wyomissing Hills Memorial Park and Playground. A ceremony will be held at the park following the parade.

Oley

—Oley Valley American Legion Post #878 will host the Memorial Day parade and service honoring veterans on May 28. The legion will fire a 21-gun salute at six cemeteries in the morning: Oley Grace Church on Main Street 8:35 to 8:40 a.m., St. Paul's Lobachsville 9 to 9:15 a.m., Pleasantville Cemetery 9:35 to 9:40 a.m., Spangsville Church Cemetery 10 a.m., small cemetery on Hetrick Farm 10:30 a.m., and Spies Church Cemetery 10:45 to 10:50 a.m. Times are approximate.

At 6 p.m., the legion will host a parade starting at the Oley Valley High School traveling up Main Street to Freiden's Cemetery for a memorial service. The guest speaker will be Ken Lebron, Berks County Department of Veterans' Affairs director. A 21-gun salute will conclude the service. In case of rain, the service will be held in the Oley Valley High School auditorium.

Mohnton

—A Memorial Day ceremony will be held May 29 at 8:45 a.m. at Earl Eshelman Memorial VFW Post 9045, 225 W. Wyomissing Ave., followed by a parade at 9.

Reading

—The Combined Veterans Council of Berks County will hold Memorial Day services May 29 at 9 a.m. in the Veterans Grove section of City Park and at 10:15 a.m. near the Civil War memorial at Charles Evans Cemetery in the 1100 block of Centre Avenue.

Exeter Township

—Exeter Legion Post 934 will hold its Exeter Community Memorial Day Parade on May 29 beginning at 9 a.m. The parade will start Exeter High School and conclude with a ceremony at Forest Hills Cemetery. Muhlenberg Township

—The Muhlenberg Township Parks and Recreation Department is planning a Memorial Day ceremony May 29 at 9 a.m. at Jim Dietrich Park near the flagpole. Staff Sgt. Joel W. Sharp and state Rep. Mark Rozzi will speak. The posting of the colors will be done by Muhlenberg Boy Scout Troops 161 and 155. Music will be provided by the Muhlenberg High School Brass Choir under the direction of Nathan Mohler. Wreaths will be laid in honor of Gold Star families, fallen police officers and firefighters, and all military branches. Light refreshments will be served afterward at the park pavilion. Birdsboro

—The Birdsboro Memorial Day parade will begin May 29 at 9 a.m. and be led by the American Legion Riders Chapter 626 and borough officials. The parade route includes stops to pay honors and present wreaths to the Birdsboro-Union Fire Department, Birdsboro Community Memorial Center WW I Monument, Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 411 and American Legion Post 626. The parade will proceed down Route 724 to Birdsboro Cemetery (St. Michaels) for a memorial service.

Boyertown

—The Memorial Day parade will begin at Boyertown High School at the Monroe Street entrance at 9:15 a.m. on May 29. The parade will travel west on Philadelphia Avenue to Fairview Cemetery, where a service will begin about 10 a.m.

—The exhibition "The Home Front 1940-1945: Boyertown Goes to War," detailing how the American people supported the war effort on a daily basis during WWII, runs through Memorial Day at the General Carl Spaatz USAAF Museum in Boyertown. Museum hours are Thursdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, see spaatzmuseum.org.

Fleetwood

—The Fleetwood Memorial Day parade begins May 29 at 10 a.m. and runs through the borough, ending at the park where a service will be held. The picnic begins in the park following the service and features food, crafts, activities and entertainment. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. in the Fleetwood High School auditorium and the afternoon's entertainment also will be moved there in case of bad weather.

Shillington

—The American Legion Reber-Moore Post 635 of Shillington will hold its 95th annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony May 29 beginning at 10:30 a.m. The parade will start at Shillington Park and end at Shillington Town Hall.
