Bernards Will Host One Of 13 Ballot Drop Boxes In Somerset County

BASKING RIDGE, NJ—Bernards Township will host one of 13 ballot drop boxes in the Somerset County this fall, in addition to two in-person polling places scheduled in the town.

Last month, in light of the coronavirus pandemic, Governor Phil Murphy gave voters multiple options on how to cast their vote when he made the decision to utilize voting by mail for the upcoming election.

"Voters will have three choices in which to return their ballots to the Board of Elections," said Somerset County's Election Board Administrator, Jerry L. Midgette, in a statement. "They can use the United States Postal Service, one of the county's 13 ballot drop boxes, and this November for the first time will be allowed to deliver their own ballot to their assigned poll location on Election Day."

Midgette said voters who choose to deliver their ballot to the polls would sign a certification that the ballot is their own, and poll workers are only permitted to accept the ballot of the person signing the certification.

The boxes will be available for ballot drop off 24 hours daily beginning the week of September 28 until November 3, 2020.

Bernards Township's ballot drop is located at the municipal building at 1 Collier Lane. The polling places in Bernards are the Bernards Township Community Center Garage on South Maple Ave. (for districts 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 17) and Fellowship Deaconry on Valley Road (for districts 4, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18-24).
