Bernie Mac’s daughter Je’Niece McCullough is finally giving some clarity to the famous “$20,000 to walk down the aisle” joke her father made about her wedding. McCullough in a video posted on TikTok clarified that the joke wasn’t really about the money, but about the choice of who she was marrying at the time.

During the Kings of Comedy Tour, the famous comedian made a joke where he talked about spending $20,000 on his daughter’s wedding. In the famous stand-up comedy clip, which has resurfaced on TikTok, the “Soul Men” actor talked about his displeasure with spending such a large amount of money on his daughter’s wedding. He talked about certain expenses, such as $4,000 in-flight tickets for the wedding minister that he found unnecessary.

On Pre-wedding Jitters

While discussing the true reason behind her father’s displeasure with the wedding, McCullough shared that her father disapproved of her now ex-husband.

“My dad hated my ex-husband, couldn’t stand him, didn’t want me to marry him,” she said.

In the caption of the video, she also went on to write, “He joked about my wedding, but he really wasn’t mad about the wedding. It was the marriage.”

In her video, McCullough shared that her father Bernie Mac had been committed to making sure she was completely sure and ready to embark on her marriage. McCullough remembers falling ill on the morning of her wedding and her father jokingly telling her that the sickness was a sign she shouldn’t go through with the nuptials. She also remembers her father seriously asking her if she was completely sure.

“I say to him the only thing I could think to say, ‘well, you’ve already paid for everything,” to which she remembers Mac saying “I’m rich, we’ll just have everybody at the reception and have a party,” McCullough said.

Mac who passed away in 2008 was well-known for his cut-throat, edgy humor. He starred in a number of big-budget productions in his days, including Charlie’s Angels and even a show based on a fictional version of him called The Bernie Mac Show. Je’Niece McCullough is his only child.
