To begin, John Donne’s “No Man is an Island” causes me to pause and reflect. For it is about the connection between all of humankind. Donne essentially argues that people need each other and are better together than they are in isolation because every individual is one piece of the greater whole which is humanity itself.

Jenna Bush Hager’s and Barbara Pierce Bush’s bestseller "The Superpower Sisterhood" poignantly captures what this column is attempting to communicate.

Emma has been lonely all her life growing up in a neighborhood with no other kids until the day two sets of sisters move to her street. The girls immediately form a club, only to discover that something mysterious is going on. They’ve each always had special talents; but, when they work together, it’s almost like their skills become superpowers. Now the sisterhood is ready to help their neighborhood thrive, as long as they can keep spooky Ms. Wigglestoot from discovering their secret. Or maybe there’s a way these super sisters can help their arch-nemesis, too.

"The Superpower Sisterhood" makes it clear that with sisters by your side, life is pretty exciting. And everything is possible!

"The Superpower Sisterhood" is a love letter to all women and girls, to all of us, a reminder that the power of sisterhood can, and should, provide us with confidence to be the most brave, unique and loving versions of ourselves.

Superpower requires working together.

“We’re stronger when we work together. And so are you.” Uniting the wisdom, skills and innovations of both Columbia and Weill Cornell Medicine for their patients.

In medicine, the more experience the better. When two top-tier medical schools collaborate, they show what can happen. Together, they raise the level of care for New York and the nation.

Become a superpower only with another or others at your side – working together.
