A New Bern businessman is bringing his success to Jacksonville with the planned March opening of Blackbeard's Triple Play Restaurant and Sports Bar.

Dale Overbee, owner of several popular New Bern businesses, said he's been looking to expand to Jacksonville for about four years, though the last two years is when he started looking more seriously.

Just last week, Overbee announced the coming of Blackbeard's to Jacksonville on Facebook. The restaurant and sports bar will set up shop in the old Twin Peaks building, which closed earlier this year.

Overbee said the new bypass between Jacksonville and New Bern makes it easy to travel between the two, and he thinks bringing a concept the people of New Bern have enjoyed to Jacksonville will be successful.

"Blackbeard's is, I call it, restaurant sports entertainment," Overbee said. "What I have in New Bern is Blackbeard's and Pirate's Cove and also a brewery and distillery. What I'm taking to Jacksonville is Blackbeard's and Pirate's Cove combined together. Pirate's Cove is seafood and Blackbeard's is wings and steak. Combining those two together -- I have everything."

According to Blackbeard's website, whether you enjoy live music or just want great food and a place to relax and watch the game with friends, Blackbeard's has exactly what you're looking for.

Pirate's Cove, according to Facebook, has a massive selection of raw, steamed, sautéed and fried seafood.

Blackbeard's will move into the old Twin Peaks, which closed earlier this year.

Overbee said he hopes to bring the same feel of his New Bern locations to Jacksonville. Some of what New Bern's Blackbeard's has to offer includes a jazz band on Mondays, trivia on Tuesdays and karaoke on Wednesdays. He also welcomes bands on Friday and Saturday nights from 7:30-11 p.m.

Because Overbee doesn't have to build an entirely new business, he said they plan to open by the end of March, just three months away. Although he's not sure what the future holds for business in Jacksonville, he's excited to expand to the area.

"I think Jacksonville is missing that," Overbee said. "I know, downtown New Bern, I've helped them with me bringing the concept that I have. I think, in Jacksonville, it's going to be good because a lot of people from Jacksonville come here."

Prior to his current portfolio, Overbee previously owned the Diamond Club, which was his first nightlife entertainment venue in New Bern. He also owned Bambooz Tiki Bar, located in the Bridgepointe Hotel and Marina and Triple Play Restaurant and Sports Bar, which closed due to new highway construction on U.S. 70.

In May of this year, Overbee opened Bootleggers and Barrels in New Bern, a bar, brewery and distillery. Overbee added he even has his own vodka, which is planned to be on shelves in local Jacksonville liquor stores soon.

According to reporting from The New Bern Sun Journal, in addition to his downtown bars and restaurants, Overbee is also the owner of Triple Play Oasis Restaurant and Sports Bar, located in the Coastal Carolina Regional Airport, Dale Overbee Construction and Dale's Heating and Air Conditioning.
