Bertucci’s shutters Connecticut locations after bankruptcy filing

Bertucci’s Restaurants in Avon and Newington closed this week after the Massachusetts-based Italian restaurant chain filed for bankruptcy Monday. The chain closed its Darien location in September.

The closures leave just the Glastonbury location, at 2882 Main St., open in the state. Bertucci’s continues to operate 31 locations across the country, mainly in Massachusetts.

Bertucci’s Restaurants filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Monday, the trade publication Nation’s Restaurant News reported, claiming $48.85 million in debt and citing pandemic- and inflation-related challenges.

It’s not the first time the chain has filed for bankruptcy. In 2018 the company filed for bankruptcy and was bought by Earl Enterprises, which owns Planet Hollywood and Earl of Sandwich. At the time, Bertucci’s had 58 locations.

Just over a week ago, 99 Restaurants closed three of its Connecticut locations — in Stratford, Cromwell and Groton — with eight locations remaining in state.

Denny’s also closed four Connecticut locations this fall.
