The best beer in South Carolina? This brewery ranks No. 1 in the state, Yelp says

A brewery with roots in a fraternity house was named the best place for beer in South Carolina — again.

Low Tide Brewing, located near the vacation hot spot of Charleston, ranks No. 1 in the state after the review website Yelp said it studied comments that customers left over time.

“We identified businesses in the breweries category on Yelp, then ranked those spots using a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews,” the website wrote in its May 1 report.

On Yelp, fans raved that Low Tide Brewing had top-notch customer service and a welcoming atmosphere. And many couldn’t get enough of the beer, helping the brewery earn more than four out of five stars.

Low Tide Brewing is on Johns Island, roughly 10 miles southwest of downtown Charleston. The location might not come as a surprise, as the Charleston area recently ranked among the U.S. places “that serve up the best food and drinks.”

Low Tide Brewing has made a name for itself in the past. While this marked the second straight year that the brewery ranked as the state’s top place to grab a beer, the business has been years in the making.

Well before the favorite beer destination got its name on a kayaking trip in 2012, its founder “started home brewing in the basement of his fraternity house and always held on to the dream of opening up his own brewery.” That dream came true in 2016, and today the drinks on tap include the Aloha Beaches pineapple wheat beer and the Lagoon Lounger pale ale.
