Artist Ed Branson talks about 'A Lifetime with Glass'

Sandwich Glass Museum hosts renowned glass artist Ed Branson, who will speak at a free reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at the museum, 129 Main St., Sandwich. Branson will speak at 5:30 p.m.

"Inspiration for Branson's glass art is derived primarily from nature, and he strives to unveil beautiful forms and colors through his careful manipulation of glass. Branson feels strongly connected to the Sandwich Glass Museum because in his early days as a glass blower, he was inspired by the historic Sandwich Glass he saw on a visit to the Sandwich Glass Museum," museum officials said in a written statement.

Learn about fly fishing

Perhaps you’ve seen the graceful arcs of the line, as the fisherman allows his or her “fly” to settle upon the water as soft as a butterfly.

Michael Mullaney, author of “The Traveling Angler of Cape Cod,” will hold an introductory seminar at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 21, at Osterville Village Library, 43 Wianno Ave. about “light tackle.” A professional fishing guide, Mullaney created his “Traveling Angler” persona to represent a consortium of 18 charters across the state. His seminar, including a PowerPoint presentation, addresses the migration of several species of fish in the region, as well as a strategy for success, and most importantly, fun. Celebrate Scotland at Tartan Day

Celebrate Scotland in the beautifully restored 1836 South Harwich Meetinghouse with Tartan Day, beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday. The event is the first in an International Celebration Series. The South Harwich Meetinghouse and the Highland Light Scottish Society will present the music and culture of Scotland with a high-energy concert of Scottish tunes in a space with historic lighting, unparalleled acoustics and candlelit ambience. The Highland Light Scottish Pipe Band and the Chatham Fiddle Orchestra are among the featured acts in the 2 1/2-hour celebration. Tickets, through Eventbrite, are $25 and include a traditional Scottish supper and dessert. Children 12 and younger are $15. The South Harwich Meetinghouse is located at 270 Chatham Road, Harwich. Using libraries to help grow your small business

Tricia Murray from the Community Development Partnership will hold a free workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, covering all the library has to offer to help establish or expand your small business. Topics include tax information, budgeting, business plans and licensure resources. The workshop is at the Eastham Public Library, 190 Samoset Road.

Designing and maintaining Cape-friendly landscapes

At 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, the Brewster Ponds Coalition will host Kristin Andres,associate director for education for the Association to Preserve Cape Cod. She will discuss landscapes and gardens, and how they play an important role in the health of theCape’s environment. Learn how you can support pollinators and birds, protect water quality, and create beautiful spaces. There will be a Q-and-A following the presentation at the Brewster Ladies’ Library, 1822 Main St.Admission is free but seating is limited. Register at either the coalition or the library.

Cultural center hosts poetry marathon, Natalie Bonfini concert

The Cultural Center of Cape Cod is celebrating National Poetry Month with a Poetry Marathon, with poets signing up for 15-minute slots from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 26. Attend to read or listen. The center will also host "A Night of Blues" with Natalia Bonfini at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 28. The center is at 307 Main St. in Yarmouth.
