Titusville art gallery celebrates Endless Summer

Summer never ends at Titusville’s Downtown Art Gallery, home of the Endless Summer Soiree from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26.

Meet artists at the gallery at 335 S. Washington Ave., where the focus this month is on Terrence Cope and his cool “Endless Summer Surfers Series” of paintings and sketches. Relax and chill while enjoying works by 20 local artists featuring Florida beaches, birds, sea turtles, manatees and more. Cope will be on hand with a live painting & sketching demonstration.

Alfie Silva: Impressions Unplugged

Celebrity impressionist Alfie Silva, known for impressions of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Johnny Cash and others, will perform at The Tangiers, 4500 Dixie Highway, Unit 1A, Palm Bay. Pipe organ concert planned in Suntree

Advent Lutheran Church’s impressive pipe organ will be put through its paces during a free concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 28, at 7550 N. Wickham Road in Suntree.

Guest organist Dr. Samuel Blackman will play the A.E. Schlueter organ of 2,196 pipes during the first concert of the church's 2022-22 season, performing a program of diverse works.

The audience will hear classical works by Elgar and J.S. Bach, in addition to several of Backman's own arrangements. These stylings include “English Folk Song Suite,” by Vaughan Williams, "Litany for All Souls" by Schubert and four dances from “Terpsichore” by Michael Praetorius. Backman's arrangement of John Philip Sousa's rousing "The Washington Post" march will serve as the program's finale. 

Director of sacred music at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Backman chairs a multi-faceted music program across three campuses, functioning as principal organist and conductor of the Holy Cross Choir, St. Helena Singers and Tenebrae Choir.

Melbourne Yacht Club celebrates 75 years

Melbourne Yacht Club, mainstay of the regional sailing community, is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a Kockpit Krawl from 6 to 8 p.m., Sat., Aug. 27. The public is invited to attend this free event, which will be at the MYC Clubhouse and on the water at its docks. The Club is located on the south side of the Melbourne Harbor on Crane Creek, just off U.S. 1.

The “Kockpit Krawl” will feature MYC members’ boats. Guests are invited to walk the docks, check out the boats’ features and amenities, and meet their captains and crews. Sailors and non-sailors alike will be able to ask questions about the boats and sailing in general.

Approximately 150 families belong to MYC and enjoy the camaraderie of the sailing community, whether they are boat owners or not. All members have access to a fleet of Collegiate 420 sailboats, Sunfish and Lasers for their personal use. MYC is also resource for the community, offering sailing classes to children and teens aged 9-17 and adults. Classes are open to the public.

Satellite Beach baking academy offers Classic Cakes course

Cafe Margaux, Green Turtle and Pompano Grill plan wine dinners

The wine and the dining are fine at local restaurants hosting wine dinners in the next few days.

It’s off to Greece at Café Margaux. The Cocoa Village restaurant at 220 Brevard Ave. will host a Greek wine dinner at 6:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday, Sept. 1 and 2. The event features producers from Santorini, Crete, Macedonia and Naoussa, Sigalas, Douloufakis, Alpha Estate, Ktma Kir Yianni and Karydas.

The six-course menu begins with chicken, lemon and egg soup, followed with three-lentil salad over baby red romaine. Shrimp Glyfada with feta, retsine, garlic, shallots and lemon continues the feast. You can’t have a Greek dinner without lamb, so the menu also includes oregano-roasted lamb with eggplant pancakes. A course of Mizithra Greek whey cheese ushers in dessert of toasted almond creak cake.

Ole & Obrigado, importer of artisanal wines from Spain and Portugal, will provide the selections for Green Turtle Market’s Iberian Peninsula wine dinner, slated for 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26.

The menu features chilled ajo blanco gazpacho, porcini-dusted corvina atop tomato compote, Andalucian rabbit thigh over saffron Valencia rice, grilled Iberico pork “secret cut” with a truffle-scented croquette and dessert of burnt Basque cheesecake with candied quince.

Brevard Ave., Cocoa Beach, will host a “Night in Italy” at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31. Brandon Whitmore will present a selection of Italian wines from Winebow, paired with Chef Ricardo Molinari’s menu, which begins with mushroom ravioli and continues to red snapper in a tomato fennel broth. Weavers and Fiber Artists meet on Merritt Island

The public is invited to the upcoming Space Coast Weavers and Fiber Artists meeting at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 27 at the Merritt lsland Public Library, 1195 N. Courtenay Parkway. In addition to preparing a fiber demo, members will also showcase fiber works they have created using the grab bag of miscellaneous supplies they were given in June. Results are always amazing. Since 1983, SCW&FA has been Brevard’s go-to group for fiber arts. Central Brevard Art Association awards scholarship

Each spring the Central Brevard Art Association awards a scholarship to a deserving Central Brevard County high school senior. This year’s recipient is Carley Fernandez from Viera High School.  

The Studios of Cocoa Beach and Ridley’s Custom Framing of Palm Bay have teamed up to present an exhibit of Carley’s work. A selection of her work, professionally mounted by Ridley’s, is on exhibit through Aug. 31 at the Studios’ gallery, 159 Minuteman Causeway in downtown Cocoa Beach.

Carley’s two-dimensional designs often begin as a digital image, which is enhanced with alcohol ink pens or acrylic paint. She is enrolled to begin studies at the Savannah College of Art and Design in the fall where she plans to major in Illustration with a minor in fine art or art history.
