Frankie Avalon takes King Center stage

Frankie Avalon, the quintessential teen idol, is still engaging audiences. The stage and screen legend visits the King Center for a performance at 7:30 p.m.., Friday, Oct. 28. “We are so fortunate to have him play at the King Center,” said Chad Ballard, director of sales and marketing.

Avalon had 31 charting singles from 1958 to 1962, including No. 1 hits “Venus” and “Why.” Avalon is also known for his role in the 1978 film “Grease,” in which he sings “Beauty School Dropout.” Avalon also has 30 motion picture credits, including the series of famously popular beach party films that paired him with Annette Funicello. Suntree church hosts organ concert and workshop

Winner of the first prize and audience prize at the 2022 American Guild of Organists’ National Young Artists Competition in Organ Performance, James Kealey is a young artist whose star is definitely on the rise. Not surprisingly, Kealey was selected as the 2022-23 “Rising Star” for Advent Lutheran Church’s pipe organ concert series.

Originally from Liverpool, England, Kealey will be the featured performer in a free pipe organ concert slated for 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 30, at the church, 7550 N. Wickham Road in Suntree. The 28-year-old will play the A.E. Schlueter organ of 2,196 pipes during a diverse program featuring works by composers of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Now a New York resident, works as associate director of music/organist at Third Presbyterian Church in Rochester, while working on his doctorate from Eastman School of Music. Kealy will present a workshop for area organists at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28.

Artist Christopher Maslow gala benefits Brevard Prevention Coalition

“The Maslow Gala,” a one-night-only immersive creative experience highlighting the artwork and community involvement of artist Christopher Maslow, will be presented by Brevard Prevention Coalition from 6 to 9 p.m., Oct. 29, at Hotel Melby’s The Landing Rooftop in downtown Melbourne.

The event highlights the coalition’s “I Choose ME” social messaging strategy for community youths and families, which promotes positive choices that lead to a positive life instead of looking to drug and alcohol misuse as coping mechanisms. Maslow has championed that message by lending his talents to nurture skills and instill hope in young people who face serious challenges.

Admission to this experience includes hors d’oeuvres from a Maslow-curated food menu, as well as surprises around every corner in a living gallery within a sensory-rich atmosphere. Gala guests are encouraged to embrace their own creativity through a fashionable art-inspired formalwear dress code that encourages them to attend the event in bold and colorful evening attire. Napa Valley wine dinner at Cafe Margaux

This month’s wine dinner at Café Margaux will feature Napa Valley wines from The Terraces Estate Winery and Vineyards, a family-run winery with roots dating back 140 years. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday, Nov. 3 and 4, at the Cocoa Village restaurant, 220 Brevard Ave.

Learn to bake perfect pies at Satellite Beach academy

Florida Academy of Baking, 1370 State Road A1A, Suite E, Satellite Beach, will present a four-week “Perfect Pies” course from 6 to 8:45 p.m., Wednesdays, Nov. 2, 9, 16 and 23. Each week, participants will make and bake a delicious pie and, of course, learn techniques to roll out perfect flakey crusts. The classes include written recipes with filling variations to recreate in the future, and bakers take home everything they make.

The weekly classes are Salted Caramel Apple Pie, Bourbon Chocolate Pecan Pie, Pear Ginger Cranberry Crumb Pie and Classic Pumpkin Pie. Dinner for Give Kids the World at Heidi's in Cocoa Beach

Nov. 1 is the deadline to reserve for a seat for a fundraiser to be held Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Heidi’s Jazz Club and Restaurant, 7 N. Orlando Ave., Cocoa Beach.

The three-course dinner benefit “Give Kids the World,” a nonprofit Kissimmee venue that offers critically ill children and their families the opportunity to enjoy a week-long vacation at no cost. The evening includes classical music performed by talented young local musicians.

It’s time for “Suites & Treats,” Melbourne Community Orchestra’s musical treat at 7 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday evening, Oct 26 and 27, at Melbourne Auditorium 625 Hibiscus Boulevard.

The program for this Halloween-themed concert includes “Night on Bald Mountain,” "Danse Macabre," "Apparitions" by Massenet, Edward Grieg's "March of the Dwarfs," the "Water Goblin" and the haunting composition, “Once Upon a Midnight Grimm.”

As an added treat, students from The Dance Zone will be featured onstage while the orchestra plays Michael Jackson’s famous "Thriller."

Halloween sip and stroll in Cocoa Beach

Cocoa Beach’s Sip ‘n Stroll turns into “A Grave Affair” in honor of Halloween this month. From 4 to 8 p.m., Oct. 29, visitors can enjoy wine, beer and ciders throughout a stroll of more than 30 unique businesses.

Regular tickets are $30, which include a commemorative cup, map and swap bag to fill with treats. The $65 VIP tickets, in addition to the regular goodies, features a rooftop party from 7:30 to 10 p.m. with more wine and beer, some eats, costume contest, music by Mondo Tikis and a drawing for gift baskets. LaPorte Farms Fall Festival

Parkinson's disease educational symposium

Parkinson's disease affects nearly 1 million people in the United States, and 4,000 of them live in Brevard. For Parkinson's patients and their families, new information brings hope and greater understanding of the progressive disease of the nervous system, which chiefly affects middle-aged and older people.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3, the Brevard Parkinson's Alliance will present a “Pakinson’s Symposium” at the Center for Collaboration, 1100 Rockledge Blvd. (US 1), Rockledge, for a discussion on the latest research, medication and treatments for Parkinson's disease.

The free educational event will feature a panel of experts comprised of area health and wellness professionals. Attendees can find information related to exercise, nutrition, mental health, veterans’ benefits, caregiver resources and much more. Lunch will be provided.
