With Halloween around the corner, there are plenty of spooky-themed events on tap this weekend, but scary stuff isn’t the only option.

For the youngsters (and young at heart), Jeep Beach will sponsor a kid-friendly Trunk or Treat event from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the One Daytona complex across from Daytona International Speedway on West International Speedway Boulevard in Daytona Beach.

For the adult crowd, there’s the Daytona Beach Halloween Bar Crawl from 4-10 p.m. Saturday, starting at Froggy’s Saloon, 800 Main Street in Daytona Beach.

This ticketed event, dubbed “Nightmare on Main Street,” features admission to popular Main Street watering holes, a commemorative pin and the opportunity to participate in a costume party at the Froggy’s after-party.

Participants are encouraged to bring a canned-food item to donate to Halifax Urban Ministries of Volusia County in exchange for raffle tickets at the event. Tickets: $19.99 at Eventbrite.com.

In West Volusia, the City of Deltona will host its Halloween Spooktacular from 5-10 p.m. Saturday at Dewey O. Boster Sports Complex, 1200 Saxon Blvd., Deltona. This free community event features hayrides, glow foam, costume competition, haunted trails and more. Visit deltonafl.gov for details.

A not-so-scary fall celebration

If you’ve already had your fill of Halloween costume parties, New Smyrna Beach will offer a fall celebration that’s not so heavy on ghosts and goblins this weekend at the city’s sports complex.

The annual event, free to the public, will be an evening of family fun with a corn maze, inflatables, a huge slide, vendors, food trucks and more.

Tickets will also be available for purchase for games and rides at the event.

It runs from 4-9 p.m. Saturday at the city’s sports complex at 1800 Turnbull Bay Road in New Smyrna Beach. Visit cityofnsb.com for details.

Daytona Beach Symphony Society opens its season

The opening concert of the Daytona Beach Symphony Society's fall season features the Minería Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Carlos Miguel Prieto, recognized as the leading Mexican conductor of his generation.

The performance also spotlights highly acclaimed international pianist Gabriela Montero, who will be featured in a performance of "Latin Concerto" as part of a program that also includes Carlos Chavez's Symphony No. 2 “Sinfonia India” and "Kauyumari," an orchestral composition by the Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz.

A chance to sip and stroll in New Smyrna Beach

It’s time again for the monthly Wine Walk along the restaurants and bars along Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach.

For the uninitiated, the Wine Walk is a monthly progressive wine tasting event that has become a popular fixture in the busy beachside business district.

This month’s edition will unfold from 1-7 p.m. Saturday along Flagler Avenue. Wine Walk tasting passports are $30 and include 20 tasting tickets along with a keepsake wine glass, map and listing of the host locations and wines.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at Eventbrite.com or day-of-event for CASH ONLY starting at noon at the following spots:

  • West Welcome Tent: Flagler Avenue and N. Peninsula Avenue

  • Middle Welcome Porch: 401 Flagler Avenue and S. Cooper Street

  • East Welcome Tent: 401 Flagler Avenue and Atlantic Avenue

In Palm Coast, more spooky stuff

The big holiday will be celebrated in Flagler County at events that include the Halloween Hoopla! from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Flagler County Public Library Main Branch, 2500 Palm Coast Parkway in Palm Coast.

Guests are invited to wear a costume and enjoy decorated pumpkins and indoor trick or treating while supplies last. Free for children of all ages, accompanied by adult. Visit flaglercounty.gov for details.
