Felines and the folks who love them will rule this weekend as the Cat Fanciers’ Association Cat Show and Expo unfolds Saturday and Sunday at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.

The family-friendly event will feature hundreds of cats, representing more than 35 breeds.

Activities will include cats and kittens competing for Best in Show honors in 10 judging rings, a lunchtime cat costume contest for felines registered for the show, as well as hourly cat agility contests.

There also will be giveaways of free cat coloring books for the first 500 children through the door daily.

If you’re not a cat owner, but want to become one, there also will be representatives from several area cat rescues on hand with animals available for adoption. At the Meow Mall, there will be an array of vendors selling cat-related items to take care of those new pets.

Hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and ages 5-12, free for ages 4 and under. Tickets are available at the door or in advance online at ccpb.ticketleap.com/daytonacats/

Professional table tennis comes to town

Also at the Ocean Center, newly established Major League Table Tennis will launch its inaugural season with matches Friday-Sunday at the county-run convention center.

The league’s slate of teams in its opening year are divided into East and West divisions, a roster that includes the Florida Crocs, Carolina Gold Rush, Princeton Revolution and Chicago Wind in the east, and the Portland Paddlers, Seattle Spinners, Texas Smash and Bay Area Blasters in the west.

The four teams from the East division will be featured in the Daytona Beach matches that start at 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets, starting at $15.75, are available at the league’s website, mltt.com.

An homage to the Fab Four

Yes, we’re inching closer to the official beginning of fall, but the summer vibe still lingers through September at the historic Daytona Beach Bandshell, which continues to host its weekly “Star-Spangled Summer” concert series through Sept. 30.

On Saturday, the “Star Spangled Summer” show will feature “Let It Be: The Beatles Tribute,” a nod to perhaps the most influential band in 20th century rock history.

The 7:15 p.m. concert will be followed by fireworks over the beach at 9:45.

Family fun at Museum of Art – DeLand

It’s time for another Family Fun Saturday event at the Museum of Art – DeLand.

There will be free hands-on art activities for youngsters from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 600 N. Woodland Blvd. All visitors on Saturday will enjoy free gallery admission to each of the museum’s exhibits and galleries.

Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

In Flagler County, jazz powers Palm Coast event

Music, dancing, book readings and signings by published authors will all be in the mix at “All That Jazz & More,” a Friday event at the African American Museum & Cultural Center of Florida in Palm Coast.

The soundtrack will be provided by Miami Beach-based Toussaint Thompson & Friends Trio. There also will readings, conversation and book-signings by authors Guy Thompson (“A Bumble Bee Will Bumble”) and T.J. Terrance (“Love Is Lovelier the Second Time Around”).

There also will be refreshments and a cash bar.
