Not all blushers are created equal and as with every other make up product, different shades suit different skin tones.

Trying to find the perfect one, however, can be a minefield of garish corals, bubblegum pinks and deep mauves.

In makeup there are no rules but just to make your life easier (and to help you avoid looking like a clown), here are our top picks for every skin tone. The best part? They can all be found at your local drugstore and are under $15!

Fair or light skin tones

It can be a challenge to find a blush shade that’s light enough to not overwhelm a fair complexion. Lighter shades of pink or light peachy tones suit most fair complexions but neutral nude tones work fabulously too.

Milani Cosmetics makes some really nice baked blushes and the shade Luminoso is perfect if you’re a fair-skinned beauty. Its gorgeous light peach shade adds colour and a subtle shimmer to pale skin and it’s flattering on a large spectrum of skin tones.

Medium skin tones

Medium skin tone people are lucky because there are a lot of affordable choices on the market when it comes to blush shades. If your complexion is on the warmer side, corals, mauves and soft plums would look great on you. If you have an olive complexion stick with warm shades like apricots and rosy tones.

We love the Maybelline Face Studio Master Hi-Light in Mauve for an affordable pigemnted blush that doubles as a highlighter too.

Alliteratively, if you own a shimmery bronzer that could double up as a neutral blush too and the warm glowy tone will look stunning on medium complexions.

Dark skin tones

It can be quite a struggle finding an affordable blush that actually shows up on darker skin tones without looking chalky.

If you have a richer darker skin tone, stick with vivid and bright shades like punchy tangerine, deep brick or rich plums.

The Elf Studio Blush Palette in Dark has four highly pigmented shades — a vibrant coral, a bright pink, a rosy shade and a deep brown — that are excellent for mixing and matching throughout the year. Bonus: you get four shades for the price of one blusher!
