Best deals, store hours for Black Friday shopping in Springfield from Costco to Bass Pro

With inflation reaching 40-year highs and interest rates spiking across the country, many economists fear that a recession is coming. And consumers are taking notice.

Global nonprofit think tank The Conference Board released its survey findings in late October which showed that consumer confidence was down, and the Expectations Index — which is based on consumers' short-term views for income, business, and labor market conditions — declined to 78.1 from 79.5.

"Consumers’ expectations regarding the short-term outlook remained dismal," said Lynn Franco, senior director of economic indicators at The Conference Board, in a news release. "The Expectations Index is still lingering below a reading of 80 — a level associated with recession — suggesting recession risks appear to be rising.”

Experts will be looking at the holiday shopping season to gauge the strength of the economy. And with many consumers worried about their finances in the near future, they may be more apt to try scoring deals on Black Friday.

With the increased popularity of online shopping, the Friday after Thanksgiving is not the one-day, in-person shopping frenzy that it used to be. But there are still deals to be had. Here's a look at some of the advertised sales and store hours for some of the bigger retailers in Springfield.

Where to avoid the shopping traffic on Black Friday

The city of Springfield announced it will have staff working Friday at the Transportation Management Center of the Ozarks to monitor and respond to traffic incidents and adjust signal timings to help maintain traffic flow in Springfield’s busiest shopping areas.

For those hoping to stay out of the fray, the city recommends avoiding the South Glenstone area between Independence and Sunset streets, Campbell Avenue between El Camino Alto Street and Battlefield Road, and Battlefield between Campbell and Glenstone.
