Best Egg is one of various fintechs in Delaware that anticipate future growth by carving out a niche using new technologies and online servicing in the consumer lending market.

For the sixth consecutive year, Best Egg, previously named Marlette Holdings, has been named one of the top large workplaces in Delaware.

The Wilmington-based financial tech company uses artificial intelligence technology to empower and protect customer finances by providing personal loan, debt consolidation and financial planning services. The employee satisfaction and flexible work environment landed Best Egg in the top spot for large workplaces in Delaware’s Top Workplaces 2023 ranking.

Best Egg went through substantial changes in the past year. Aside from the company’s official name change, Jeffrey Meiler, who acted as CEO of the company since its inception in 2014 and was last year’s winner of top leader for Delaware’s Top Workplaces, stepped down from his position in June.

Paul Ricci and Bobby Ritterbeck, who have also been with Best Egg since 2014, stepped up as CEO and President of the company, respectively. Ricci had previously served as the company's founding CFO.

“The change was handled with the utmost care and transparency, ensuring a seamless transition for all our employees,” Ricci said. “Our employees have embraced the transition positively, recognizing the stability and continuity that the new leadership brings.”

Best Egg saw substantial growth in 2022. About 1.3 million new customers were served, resulting in $7.5 billion in personal loans being granted, a 63% increase from the previous year.

Two new services were also added to Best Egg’s portfolio: Best Egg Flexible Rent and Best Egg Vehicle Equity Loan, which allows renters to customize payment schedules for housing and offers an alternative for customers who may not otherwise qualify for loans going toward vehicle payments.

Employees from a variety of departments have praised the company’s workplace culture for its encouraging environment and positive work-life balance via anonymous online surveys.

“Everyone here is so friendly and helpful,” one employee commented. “We have such a great team here throughout all of the departments. Everyone is accessible for help and questions from my direct manager all the way up through senior level.”

Ricci attributes the positive culture to empowering its employees and its unique benefits. The company hosts speakers from various industry experts for the office to attend and offers professional development opportunities and mentoring programs to encourage career growth for its workers.

Quarterly business meetings are also a time for the company’s employees to come together. Different departments host the meetings with different themes, culminating with an office-wide happy hour for employees to unwind and socialize.

“Receiving this award as a top place to work in Delaware is a tremendous honor for Best Egg and our leadership change,” Ricci said. “We are deeply grateful for this recognition, as it reflects our commitment to providing the best possible experience for our valued team members.”
