Best Gas Grills to Buy at Walmart

Gas grills from Cuisinart, Expert Grill, Weber, and other brands, all available at Walmart, get high ratings. We also share one grill to avoid.

By Paul Hope

You can find some terrific gas grills at your local hardware store and an especially dizzying array of options at home centers like Home Depot and Lowe’s. Then there’s Walmart and other discount stores, which ring up about a quarter of all grill sales. Walmart’s broad gas grill offerings span its walk-in and online stores—with dozens of free delivery options.

“Walmart stores usually offer gas grills that are around $100 to $400, from brands such as Cuisinart and Expert Grill,” says Mark Allwood, a senior market analyst at Consumer Reports. “Online, you have a lot more to choose from, including Weber, with prices all the way up to $2,000.”

If you’re specifically planning to shop at Walmart, you’ll find our recommendations available there. Our grill buying guide is a great place to start, and CR members can scroll through our comprehensive gas grill ratings.

We test grills from nearly every brand sold at Walmart, including Cuisinart, Expert Grill, and Weber.

Some of the models below are Walmart exclusives. But don’t assume that Walmart will always offer the best deal on other options. It’s possible that competing retailers might stock the same model at a lower price—and some of the models below may be temporarily out of stock. Therefore, it’s always wise to shop across retailers. We also offer expert picks for the best gas grills at Home Depot and the best gas grills at Lowe’s.

Walmart Shopping Tips

Before checking out, keep in mind some of these tips from Consumer Reports’ secret shoppers.

Shopping at a Walmart Store

  • Check inventory online before you head to a store. The grill you want might be in a store near you. If not, Walmart will ship it to a store where you can pick it up, and you won’t have to pay a shipping fee.

  • Check the grill’s dimensions. You can do this on Walmart’s site or on the grill’s summary page in our gas grill ratings.

  • Check your cargo space. Walmart offers free assembly but doesn’t deliver assembled grills to residences. You’ll need an SUV or a pickup to haul an assembled grill home. Walmart doesn’t rent trucks.

Shopping at Walmart Online

  • Check to see if a grill has free two-day shipping. You’ll see this called out on Walmart’s website.

  • Check the box before you start assembling the grill. Make sure all the parts are included and not broken or damaged. If something is missing, call Walmart’s customer service (800-925-6278). If the wait for a replacement part is too long, call the manufacturer directly to see whether it can be shipped sooner.

Lowest-Scoring Grill at Walmart

Char-Broil Patio Bistro 15601900

CR’s take: Although it’s fast at preheating, the small Char-Broil Patio Bistro 15601900 is the worst-rated grill in all of our gas grill tests. This one-burner model receives only Fair scores for heating evenness, temperature range, and convenience in CR’s labs. Another drawback: Owners in CR member surveys gave the Char-Broil brand’s gas grills just a Fair satisfaction rating and only a Good reliability rating.
