According to Gourmandize, amazing seafood doesn’t always have to come on a pretty plate in a “bougie” white-tablecloth atmosphere.

Here is a list of hidden gem seafood shacks in New England:

Stowe’s Seafood - West Haven, Connecticut

Known for its fried seafood, Stowe’s Seafood has been a Connecticut gem for decades. What started with a grandmother’s clam chowder recipe then turned into a fresh fish market and now is a full-service restaurant. The family-owned restaurant offers fresh fish and lobster caught right off the boat as well as a huge menu of fantastic fried seafood and a killer lobster roll. This restaurant is cash only.

The Clam Shack - Kennebunk, Maine

This seafood shanty has been feeding the residents of Kennebunkport, Maine since 1968. Known for their hot dog-style lobster rolls, here, you’ll find hefty pieces of lobster meat stacked onto fluffy round bread rolls with your choice of butter, mayonnaise, or both. This award-winning sandwich is top-notch quality and taste.

Pool Lobster At Goldthwaite’s - Biddeford Pool, Maine

Pool Lobster at Goldthwaite’s offers beautiful coastal views, classic lobster rolls with freshly picked meat, and an award-winning clam chowder. The restaurant is attached to Goldthwaite’s general store. According to Gourmandize, the best time to go is during the summer, and “don’t hesitate to get an order of their delicious homemade onion rings or a bowl of “fancy clam chowder” to start.

The Daily Catch - Boston, Massachusetts

This restaurant located in Boston is a Sicilian-style seafood joint. The Daily Catch is a family-owned-and-operated restaurant with three locations. Known for its chalkboard menu of pasta and fresh catch dishes. Their most popular dish is the lobster fra diavolo which has lobster, mussels, clams, calamari and shrimp atop a bed of pasta in spicy red sauce. This place is cash only so make sure to stop by an ATM before heading to eat.
