Voting is open for the Athlete of the Week.

The Athlete of the Week voting occurs each week during high school sports competition and recognizes athletes across all sports.

Athletes are on this week's ballot based on information made available to The Dispatch, and nominations made over the past week.

High school sports: 2022-23 Athletes of the week

Once athletes win during the regular season, they're not eligible to be back on the ballot until the postseason. If athletes haven't won in the regular season, they can be nominated more than once.

Here are this week's Athlete of the Week candidates

Niels Abessolo, Independence basketball: Had a quadruple-double of 24 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals in an 84-64 win over West. In three games, all wins, he had 54 points and 29 rebounds.

Gigi Bower, Olentangy Liberty basketball: Scored 26 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 6.1 seconds remaining, in a 54-53 overtime win at Marysville. She added four rebounds, four steals and one blocked shot. In a 67-34 win over Bradley, she had 16 points, five rebounds, one steal and one assist.

Quinn Dean, Reynoldsburg bowling: Threw three strikes in the 10th frame of all eight rounds of the championship to help the Raiders win the Muskingum Tournament. He also made the all-tournament team with a 605 series. He had games of 269 and 278 on consecutive days and has a 205 average.

Josh Innes, Thomas Worthington bowling: Had a career-high 259 game as well as a career-high 482 two-game series with scores of 223 and 259 in a win over Olentangy.

Vince Mayle, Canal Winchester basketball: Had 14 points and 14 rebounds in a 66-33 win over Chillicothe.

Braylen Nash, New Albany basketball: Scored 41 points on 13-of-20 shooting from the field while going 12 of 14 at the line, and had five rebounds and four assists in an 86-66 win at Westland. He also scored 26 points in a 74-61 win over Worthington Kilbourne.

Taylor Stace, Whitehall Yearling bowling: Playing for the boys team, she bowled a 547 series with games of 165, 203 and 179. She finished fifth and earned a spot on the first-team All Ohio MSL team. If the school had a girls team, she would have finished first.
