Best July 4th Decorations Crowned In Agoura Hills

AGOURA HILLS, CA — When fireworks, barbecues, and picnics are canceled, a scarecrow in overalls, white tennis shoes, a blonde wig, and a COVID-19 mask may be the next best thing.

This year, Agoura Hills joined other Conejo Valley cities in launching a Fourth of July decorating contest. Last week, the city asked its residents to decorate their home, pet, porch, or all of the above, and share the photo on social media for a shot at winning a gift card to a local restaurant.

As usual, Agoura Hills delivered. On Tuesday morning, the city’s community services office announced winners in three categories: Most Spirited, Pet Friendliest, Eco Friendliest, and the Mayor’s Award.

The Mayor’s Award went to the scarecrow, who was created by the Ackrich family. The Akriches festooned their home and car with American flags, and at the top of their driveway was the aforementioned scarecrow, wearing red, white, and blue Mardi Gras beads and keeping a watchful eye on all the flags.

The Jirkovsky family won the Most Spirited Award by festooning their entire property with stars, lights, and an American flag. The area in front of their house is so covered in lights that it almost resembles fireworks.

The Powledge family won the Pet Friendliest Award simply by putting a red banana around the neck of their beagle, and covering their home in one big American flag, and several little triangular flags of different designs.

The Farkash family won the Eco Friendliest Award, but no photos are available.
