Who has the best leftover pizza in Cincinnati? We tested these 6 pies | Reheated Eats

If you're reading this, you have likely warmed up leftover pizza countless times. But is there a certain pizza that reheats better than others?

Five Enquirer pizza experts sought to find the best leftover pizza in Cincinnati, as part of our Reheated Eats series. We picked the restaurants based on how much we like them and their convenience to the busyness of our everyday lives (so yes, we admittedly missed some notable pizzerias). All of us then warmed up our choices (plus one extra Cincinnati chili pizza for funsies) and rated each pie out of five.

The restaurants we decided on were Chameleon Pizza, Trophy Pizza, Adriatico's, Catch-a-Fire Pizza and Taglio Bar + Pizzeria. Here is how they fared. The final rankings were based on each pizza's average rating. The person who brought the pizza in also gave their thoughts.

Think we should do this again with the pizzerias we missed? Let us know which restaurants you want us to try in the comments.

It's happened: Cincinnati finally has a real, authentic New York-style pizza joint

Sixth place: Catch-a-Fire Pizza's Cincinnati Chili

  • Restaurant address: 3301 Madison Road, Oakley.

  • Price: $14.25 for a 10-inch pizza.

  • Ingredients: House Cincinnati-style chili, spaghetti noodles, cheddar cheese, oyster crackers and onions.

  • Notes: There were multiple non-Cincinnati chili fans among the taste-testers. Haadiza also gave it a -5 (I didn't know negative scores were allowed), but that significantly lowered its overall rating, especially considering Keith Pandolfi and I gave the pizza 4/5 and 4.5/5 ratings, respectively.

  • Overall rating: 0.86/5

  • Final thoughts: Honestly, I thought this was just as good as it was when I first bought it. The chili still had nice flavor, and the cheese being melted from the microwave was a nice touch. But my colleagues, Haadiza, Emily, Victoria and Jackie, colluded together to drop the overall score. I believe they went into the taste-test knowing they were going to rate the chili pizza low. Haadiza gave it a negative rating, which I didn't even know was allowed! But The Enquirer's food writer, Keith Pandolfi, gave it a 4/5, and he is literally paid to tell me what tastes good. So, that should be enough proof for how delicious this pie really is. My final thought? Don't waste this treasure on Cincinnati chili haters. Fifth place: Catch-a-Fire Pizza's Cornerstone

  • Restaurant address: 3301 Madison Road, Oakley.

  • Price: $11.75 for a 10-inch pizza.

  • Ingredients: Pepperoni, four types of cheese and a fire-roasted red sauce.

  • Notes: The crust was thinner than others, which didn't do as well overnight. I love when pizza isn't drenched in sauce (which is why I love Catch-a-Fire's Cornerstone pie), but it didn't hold up well, since some of the sauce dried up.

  • Overall rating: 2.88/5

  • Final thoughts: Personally, I still loved this pizza the next day. Catch-a-Fire uses huge pepperonis, and the flavor of them was still present after reheating. I even tasted a slight spice. However, not using as much sauce led to the pizza being a little dryer than the others we tried, so this isn't a good option for any sauce lovers out there. I'm not a huge pizza sauce guy, though, so I still enjoyed eating this pie a day later. – David Wysong, news of now editor.

Fourth place: Chameleon Pizza's half-pepperoni, half-veggie

Chameleon Pizza's half-pepperoni, half-veggie, which features marinara sauce, cheese, pepperoni, roasted green beans, broccoli, pesto, marinated onion and greens.
  • Restaurant address: 4114 Hamilton Ave., Northside.

  • Price: $26.95 for a 20-inch pizza.

  • Ingredients: Marinara sauce, cheese and pepperoni; roasted green beans, broccoli, pesto, marinated onion and greens.

  • Notes: On one side, this thin-crust New York Style pizza had an abundance of large pepperonis, which is great if you're into that sort of thing. But the real showstopper was the veggie side, which was spiced to perfection and delighted many veggie-pizza haters (Victoria).

  • Overall rating: 3.54/5

  • Final thoughts: When it came to reheatability, the group unanimously decided that the pepperoni side was just average. If you love day-old New York-style pepperoni pizza, this is the pie for you. But if you're looking for a unique pizza that tastes just as good, if not better, after it's been popped in the microwave, try Chameleon's veggie pizza. David would not allow us to judge them separately, or else I'm sure the veggie pizza would've made the top three. Do you think this is retaliation for not liking the Cincinnati chili pizza? Haadiza Ogwude, news of now reporter.

Third place: Taglio Bar + Pizzeria's Pepperoni + Hot Honey

The Pepperoni + Hot Honey pizza from Taglio Bar + Pizzeria, featuring tomato sauce, mozzarella, parmesean, pepperoni, basil and Mike's Hot Honey.
The Pepperoni + Hot Honey pizza from Taglio Bar + Pizzeria, featuring tomato sauce, mozzarella, parmesean, pepperoni, basil and Mike's Hot Honey.
  • Restaurant address: 56 E. 12th St., Over-the-Rhine.

  • Price: $14 for a small New York-style pizza.

  • Ingredients: Tomato sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, pepperoni, basil and Mike's Hot Honey.

  • Notes: Since it was a New York-style pizza, the crust was thinner, and slices were relatively small. The pepperonis were also smaller on this pizza than other pepperonis we ate, and they crisped up nicely. The hot honey, while not immediately discernable by taste, was discernable by smell.

  • Overall rating: 3.72/5

  • Final thoughts: This pizza, with its small pepperonis and mouthwatering scent and flavor, was an early favorite of the Reheated Eats crew. It has a simple concept (who doesn't love pepperoni pizza) with the unique twist of Mike's Hot Honey. While it didn't end up winning overall, Taglio's pizza reheated very well and is welcome to live in my fridge for next-day bites anytime. – Emily DeLetter, news of now reporter.

Trophy Pizza's White Pizza, which features caramelized onions, basil and ricotta cheese.

Second place: Trophy Pizza's White Pizza

  • Restaurant address: 10325 Reading Road, Evendale.

  • Price: $24 for a 20-inch pizza.

  • Ingredients: Caramelized onions, basil and ricotta cheese.

  • Notes: Trophy Pizza is known for its foldable, New York-style pies, and conveniently offers both whole pizzas and by the slice. What makes this particular pizza a show-stopper are the sweet caramelized onions and creamy ricotta cheese.

  • Overall rating: 3.94/5

  • Final thoughts: The cheesy goodness of Trophy's White Pizza definitely held up during the reheating, making it a favorite among the Reheated Eats squad. We did find, though, that thin crust is more likely to get that chewy, next-day feel. But this pizza's toppings and this is coming from a pepperoni lover are good enough to make me want it fresh, cold or reheated. Another lesson learned: In this office, you can't go wrong with ricotta cheese. – Victoria Moorwood, news of now reporter.

Adriatico's Chicken Pesto, which features chicken, tomato, spinach, onion, ricotta cheese and pesto sauce.
Adriatico's Chicken Pesto, which features chicken, tomato, spinach, onion, ricotta cheese and pesto sauce.

First place: Adriatico's Chicken Pesto

  • Restaurant address: 113 W. McMillan St.

  • Price: $29.19 for a large with 16 slices.

  • Ingredients: Chicken, tomato, spinach, onion, ricotta cheese and pesto sauce.

  • Notes: Adriatico's Sicilian-style crust is soft and chewy, which reheated well in the microwave, whereas thinner crusts got chewy in a bad way. Each slice was chock-full of toppings that melded well together.

  • Overall rating: 4.34/5

  • Final thoughts: Never fear ordering a larger size from Adriatico's, including the 30-slice Bearcat, because leftovers will taste great the next day and beyond. Not everyone is a fan of a thicker crust, but Adriatico's nails the right amount of chew. The overall takeaway from our experiment: There is no such thing as bad pizza, even leftover pizza (unless it has a three-way on top). – Jackie Borchardt, senior news director for content.
