Best place for brunch? Three North Carolina restaurants rank among nation’s favorites

Whether you’re a fan of biscuits or French toast, you might not have to go far for a satisfying brunch.

That’s because North Carolina is home to three of the best places to eat the late-morning meal, according to the restaurant reservation website OpenTable.

The restaurants that made it onto the website’s May 1 list of the “100 Most Popular Brunch Spots in America” were:

To create the list of favorite brunch spots, OpenTable said it studied more than 13 million “verified” reviews left online in the year leading up to March. It focused on U.S. restaurants “for which ‘good for brunch’ was selected as a special feature.”

“All restaurants with a minimum ‘overall’ score and number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration,” OpenTable wrote in a news release. “The overall score is made up of unique data points, such as overall diner rating, user klout, total number of reviews, and regional overall rating.”

The resulting list — presented in alphabetical order — included a name that might be familiar to North Carolina food lovers.

Green Valley Grill in Greensboro made it onto OpenTable’s top brunch list for at least the third year in a row. The restaurant, which serves dishes with “Old World European and Mediterranean flavors,” also has ranked among the nation’s top date night spots and outdoor dining destinations.

Another restaurant that has earned repeated praise isn’t too far away. Also in Greensboro, Print Works Bistro is part of the same restaurant group and has received many of the same honors.

On OpenTable, several users said they loved the Greensboro restaurants’ atmosphere and service. Many also were fans of their eggs Benedict dishes, helping the dining spots earn 4.8 out of five stars.

To the west, Tupelo Honey also was named a top place to grab brunch. Some people who ate at the Southern food restaurant, located in the popular mountain tourist town of Asheville, took to OpenTable to rave about the brunch experience, including the fried chicken and biscuits.

Though Tupelo Honey has restaurants across more than a dozen states, the downtown Asheville location was the only one to make it onto the national list. The dining spot, which earned 4.7 out of five stars on OpenTable, is one of several Asheville restaurants to receive wide recognition in recent months.

Overall, North Carolina joined 21 other states in boasting at least one top brunch spot on the OpenTable list. The state with the most winning restaurants was California, which had 22 total.

OpenTable shared the results ahead of Mother’s Day, one of the busiest days for eating out in 2022. The trend of enjoying a meal for the holiday “shows no signs of slowing down,” Susan Lee, chief growth officer for the restaurant review website, wrote in the news release.
