The best sandwich in every New England state

Looking for something to eat? Why not grab a sandwich?

Sandwiches are one of the most versatile foods that hit the spot no matter what time of day. Whether it’s a classic cold-cut sandwich or one stacked high with fried foods and peanut butter the combinations are endless.

Reader’s Digest recently compiled a list of the best sandwich in every state

Here are the best sandwiches in New England, according to Reader’s Digest:

Connecticut: Clam Roll

Fresh clams are a Connecticut staple and are known in many dishes. Connecticuts’ favorite sandwich is a clam roll which contains fried clams, lettuce, and a splash of tartar sauce. Sometimes simple is better.

Maine: Lobster Roll

You’ll find lobster anywhere up and down the Eastern Seaboard but people from Maine love their warm lobster rolls. Red’s Eats in Wiscasset, Mainehas buttered split-top buns and contains lobster packed into them.

Massachusetts: Fluffernutter

Both the ingredients and the sandwich were created in Massachusetts. According to Reader’s Digest, Leila Mercer of Hudson, Massachusetts, says, “In the 1960s, I think every child in New England could sing the jingle.” (“First you spread, spread, spread, your bread with peanut butter. Add marshmallow Fluff and have a fluffernutter.”).”

New Hampshire: Moe’s Original

In 1959, Phil “Moe” Pagano of Portsmouth bought a sandwich shop that sold one type of sub: salami and provolone with onions, peppers, pickles, and olives. This sandwich was created by his mother and is still a fan favorite in New Hampshire today.

Rhode Island: Hot Weiner

Hot wieners are much less processed than hot dogs and are a staple in Rhode Island thanks to the buns being slightly sweeter. They’re served at “wienie joints” across the state and served with mustard, meat sauce, onion, and celery salt.

Vermont: Vermonter

Known as the grown-up grilled cheese the Vermonter is made with sharp cheddar, fresh apple slices, and maple mustard, often accompanied by ham and turkey.
