The Best Places To Buy A House In CT Might Surprise You: Survey
CONNECTICUT — The rankings website Niche.com recently released its 2020 list of the Best Places to Buy a House in Connecticut, and if you're thinking of purchasing a home in Fairfield County you might want to think again.
Of the top 50 places in the Constitution State to buy a home, only two — Southport and Weston — are in Fairfield County, the wealthy suburban area 25-plus miles east of New York City. Several of the communities in the county boast strong school systems, multimillion-dollar homes and other desirable amenities that go along with its nickname of Connecticut's "Gold Coast."
At the top of the list is Avon, followed by Weatogue, East Granby, Salem and Simsbury in the top five. West Simsbury, Cheshire, Andover, North Granby and Burlington round out the top 10. Southport came in at #31, while Weston was ranked 41st.
When you look at the methodology Niche.com used to compile the list, criteria geared toward inexpensive housing costs made up more than 55 percent of the ranking's weight. Click here to view the methodology.
Among the criteria Niche.com used included:
Home Value to Income Ratio
Monthly Housing Cost
Cost of Living Grade
Median Effective Property Tax
Crime & Safety Grade
Public Schools Grade
"[The overall] grade takes into account key factors of a location's housing market, including home values, taxes, crime rates, and quality of local schools, in an attempt to measure the quality and stability of an area’s real estate market," Niche.com wrote.
